Today, we honor Indigenous peoples, their cultures, their resilience, and their ongoing fight for justice and sovereignty.
A land was not discovered. But a generous people were encountered.
And in typical colonial fashion, their generosity was exploited. They were called savages. Their resistance was called barbarism. Their land was taken. Their humanity was questioned. And their fight to defend what was theirs was rewritten as violence.
