Momma squirrel had so many adventures while she was here with me. I never gave her a real name. She was always just Momma. Somehow that fit her perfectly. She taught me more about squirrels than I could have ever imagined just by watching her every day.

We were almost able to get a family picture. One baby refused to cooperate!

My little Momma squirrel lived in my tree for ten years. She was the first little soul I met when I moved in, sitting up in the branches watching me like I didn’t belong there. It did not take long before that changed. We became friends, and I still remember the first time I handed her a pecan. She had no idea what it was. She took it and spent the next three hours prancing around the yard with it in her mouth, showing it off like she had just discovered treasure. I had never seen a squirrel so proud.
