“History books often remember the battles…
but sometimes the smallest details survive the longest.
While reading scanned Cuban newspapers from 1896, I discovered the story of Carlos Aguirre, a Cuban mambí killed near Santa Bárbara during the war for independence.
The report carefully described the clothing he wore that day.
A red and white striped guayabera.
That discovery inspired us to recreate this shirt more than a century later, honoring the elegance, identity, and courage connected to Cuba’s history.
This is more than a guayabera.
It’s a piece of memory brought back to life.”
