Happy Labor Day! I hope you're able to spend some time outdoors. We'll be doing some fishing for sure and it always reminds me that my kids aren't as aware of gators as they should be. Here are some tips to keep your kids and pets safe and still have fun!

This alligator made himself right at home overnight in Venetian Bay. A Florida Fish and Wildlife trapper safely removed the gator from the pool. Don’t let the angle fool you - he was approximately 10 feet long! 😮

Hey folks! I’m Dave — a Florida kid at heart, born and raised in Tampa. After spending 23 years in the mountains of Western North Carolina raising three boys, my wife, my two youngest kids, and I recently made our way back home to Florida.

Why “Swamp Savvy”? Well, during a family chat, I realized my boys—living away from Florida—weren’t born with that reflex to respect gators, watch for snakes, or simply navigate the wild outdoors the way I learned to. That’s when “Swamp Savvy” was born: my way of teaching them (and reminding myself!) how to enjoy Florida—with safety and a smile.

So, this page (and our shop!) is part of that journey: celebrating Florida’s wild side—from hunting and fishing to golfing —while blending craftsmanship and care. Think of us as passing on a wink of wisdom, the kind you can wear and share. Swamp Savvy is all about Floridian swagger with a grin.
