We are an intentional community and craft center located in the heart of the Finger Lakes in Middlesex, NY. For over 50 years, Guild artisans have been producing fine crafts including pottery, woodworking, weaving, natural fiber clothing and folk toys. Membership includes both non-residents and residents. Residents live on-site year-round, sharing meals and working together in an effort to live mo

re sustainably. The Guild offers education in traditional crafts through classes, residencies, and apprenticeships. The 350-acre farm is home to the East Hill Gallery, open May through October and displaying the work of Guild artists and Romeo Retreat Center, our guest host available for rentals and programs.

We’ve been hard at work behind the scenes preparing an exciting new offering from the Folk Art Guild: our new online shop, launching June 10.

Opening with our Spring Studio Sale, the shop will feature work from pottery, woodworking, weaving, sewing, prints, and more from artists working in Guild studios today.

If you can’t make it to East Hill Gallery in person, the online shop will offer another way to purchase handmade work from the Guild from wherever you are, including during the off-season.

The shop will remain open year-round, with special seasonal studio sales featuring additional work from across the Guild’s studios.

More details and previews coming soon!

What makes something folk art?

Join craftspeople from the Rochester Folk Art Guild for a conversation on making, tradition, materials, daily work, and the handmade objects that shape our lives.

This program brings together people working across the Guild’s studios and workshops to reflect on their own creative practices and the question of what folk art means today. Expect stories, process, philosophy, and insight into the culture of making that has shaped the Guild for generations.

Mushrooms can produce an astonishing range of color, from warm golds and rusts to smoky purples and soft greens.

This July, Tonya Pettit joins us for a two-day workshop exploring the process of creating natural dyes from fungi and bringing those colors to life on silk. Participants will work hands-on with dye mushrooms, experiment with color and process, and spend time looking more closely at the overlooked materials all around us.
