Some pictures from last weekends Offshore 160 solo race, conducted by Newport Yacht Club. Wonderful turn out, more than doubling last running (2016) 2018 registered 23 entries, but as often happens, there were a few withdrawals, about 18 boats faced the starters horn at 1210 on Friday under sunny skies and a modest SE breeze. Close to Champaign sailing for 24 hours or so.

We are delighted to congratulate long time Hood Sails family member Vince Todd and his son Emmett (just graduated from college) on taking a third in their Double Handed class in the Bermuda race. Thora is a Ted Hood design from 1962, a centerboard yawl that Vince has spent the past 15 years rebuilding, a few bits every winter. The father son duo were on one of the shortest LOA boats, the third oldest and one of three wooden boats in the race. Vince has been a long time client of ours for sails and we all pass on our heartiest congratulations on their success in what was by all accounts a draining and frustrating race.

The sails to be used for the square rigged, training ship community require considerable experience and attention to detail. This photo summary of a new sail we are doing for Sea Education Assocation, SEA, a fore topsail for the Robert C. Seamans must withstand a hard life of 24/7 use in a harsh work environment. These pictures demonstrate some of the finer nuances of detailing that go towards making these sails, as with all Hood Sails, very High Value.
