When creator Shayla Rai Coffman shared that she’s eating just one meal a day to save for her daughter’s vacation, our hearts melted. It’s a generous sacrifice, but it highlights a quiet reality: moms often feed themselves last, and instead of being helped, they are praised for going without. 🤍

That is exactly why we started the well-fed mama campaign. Our clothing line directly supports and gives back to mothers who give absolutely everything to their families. Because a well-fed mama is a sustained mama. Let’s change the narrative together.

Rachel Jankovic can’t be for real. But sadly, she is, and the absurdity reveals something much more serious: teaching girls from a young age to view their bodies, their friendships, their affection and even ordinary interactions with other girls through a sexualized lens, and then teaching them that those things need to be stifled and reined in.

That’s a pretty effective method of social control. And it doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Jankovic’s father, Doug Wilson, openly advocates for patriarchy and male authority, including the idea that husbands are the heads of their wives and that a healthy society should be patriarchal. (Blog & Mablog)

So yes, the clip is ridiculous, but the ideology underneath it is insidious.

Women aren’t “moving too far left.” We’re asking for more autonomy, more equality, and less unpaid labor. And apparently, that’s a problem worth blaming us for.

Hugh Hefner reportedly called the FBI multiple times in 2005 after a former Pl***oy Playmate told him Jeffrey Epstein had r***d and trafficked her. According to newly surfaced court filings, the FBI didn’t meaningfully follow up for roughly 15 years.

And somehow we’ve reached the point where Hugh Hefner is being presented as the moral voice in the Jeffrey Epstein story.

Let that sink in.

Hefner did the right thing by reporting what he was told. The FBI’s failure to act is horrifying.

But if Hugh Hefner is suddenly our moral compass, we are in a very, very sad state.

The story isn’t “Hefner was a hero.”

The story is how many people knew, how many warnings were ignored, and how long powerful institutions failed the women and girls who were trying to be heard.

Thanks to Christina Lorey for bringing this to our attention.

This week I’m writing from Aspen, where I’m spending the week for the Aspen Institute’s Food Leaders Fellowship. As I write, I’m sitting in a room full of people who believe that every kid and every mom in this country deserves food that nourishes them. It’s a privilege to be here by any measure, and part of that privilege is something I didn’t expect to notice as much: I get to think. Whole, uninterrupted thoughts, one after another, for days.

Right before I came on this trip, I finished Cal Newport’s book, Deep Work. If you haven’t read it, the premise is simple: the ability to focus without distraction on something hard is one of the most valuable skills there is, and almost nobody protects it anymore. I loved it. I also couldn’t stop noticing something. Nearly every person that Newport holds up as a master of deep work is a man. Depending on how you count, you can find maybe two or three women in the entire book, and only one of them is actually shown doing the deep work itself.

Women shouldn’t need a tactical plan to go for a run.

And just to be clear: this isn’t a debate about guns. That’s a conversation for another day.

The point is that women have been conditioned to treat harassment and violence as a logistical problem we’re responsible for solving.

Maybe we should be asking why. And holding the real perpetrators responsible.

We behave like it’s all men because that is the safest choice.
