After 16 years in business we have decided not to renew our lease for Run 26 and will be shutting our doors on November 14th. It took a while to dig out the hole from being shut down during our busiest months last year and now with supply chain issues and the inability to get product, with no end in sight, it didn’t make sense to renew.

I am not the first small business to close due to these supply chain issues and mandates and I won’t be the last so please support your local small businesses. If they don’t have what you’re looking for consider buying a gift certificate that you can use when product finally becomes available, they desperately need your help.
We’ll be open 10am-4pm Mon-Sat and 12pm-4pm Sun from now until the 14th. Everything in the store will be 30 to 50% off and we will also be selling shelving, retail displays, counter, benches, etc. I’ll be taking a few months off after we close to take care a some benign health issues then I’ll be looking for new opportunities come Spring.

It was an amazing 16 years owning Run 26 and I loved every minute of it! It allowed me to work with my dad for 9 years, my wife for 7 years and I didn’t miss one of my kids athletic or school events. I was able to coach both of my sons which is something money can’t buy. Thanks so much to all our fantastic customers, you are the best! I am going to miss my every day interactions with all of you. Our customers made my days amazing and I felt like I never worked a day because I loved it so much. The thing I am most proud of owing Run 26 was how it became place where adults and teenagers would come hang out when they were going through tough times or were feeling down. They would come to chat or go for a group run to make themselves feel better and to find a place they could fit in. Helping to make people’s lives better is what it’s all about so I feel blessed that Run 26 became that place.

Did you wonder, why 26? This store is named Run 26 in honor of store owner, Shelby Schenck’s brother, Steve, who passed away from cancer at the age of 13.

Born on the 26th of July, as was Shelby, it was Steve’s favorite number. Shelby also wore the number 26 in Steve’s memory. 26 has become a symbol of their unique bond, and Run26 helps continue that brotherly bond.

Happy Birthday Steve and Shelby!

"During training, runners would constantly check the weather to pin down the best time to run. One of the indicators is humidity. The more moisture in the air, the warmer it feels. So can you go for a run in humidity?"

Good info together from a runner who lives in the tropics, in a high temp weekend in the PNW, why does it feel worse than running in the dry Southwest? Answer is humidity!

Be safe out there this weekend! Be prepared to slow down your pace and/or end your run early if you are feeling any of these symptoms. Familiarize yourself with the different symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke so you know the difference.

Washington, we're about to have some historic high temperatures in our state so it's very important to check your local forecasts on your favorite weather app or weather.gov. There are excessive heat warnings in multiple areas of the state. It's also important to know the difference between heat exhaustion and heat stroke and to call 911 if potentially facing a heat stroke. These are going to be some uncomfortable days. During the heat, stay hydrated and make sure your pets have shade and water. And please help us prevent forest fires. There's no need to make an emergency even worse.
▶ Don’t rely solely on fans to keep you cool. While electric fans might provide some comfort, when temperatures are really hot, they won’t prevent heat-related illness.
▶ If you need a cooling center, contact your local county or city to see what their plans are. Spend some time at a shopping mall, grocery store or public library - even a few hours spent in air conditioning can help.
▶ Take cool showers or baths.
▶ Use your stove and oven less to maintain a cooler temperature in your home.
▶ Avoid high-energy activities outdoors.
▶ Drink plenty of fluids and wear light colored clothes.
▶ Check on and take care of those vulnerable to heat (children, those with chronic medical conditions, elderly, pets).
▶ Stay inside during the hottest times of the day (afternoon and early evening).
▶ Be wary of rivers and lakes. The water is still cool and the drowning risk is real.

HEAT CRAMPS
Signs: Muscle pains or spasms in the stomach, arms or legs
Actions: Go to a cooler location. Remove excess clothing. Take sips of cool sports drinks with salt and sugar. If you are sick and need medical attention, call your healthcare provider first. If cramps last more than an hour, seek medical attention.

HEAT EXHAUSTION
Signs: Heavy sweating, paleness, muscle cramps, tiredness, weakness, dizziness, headache, fainting, nausea, vomiting
Actions: Go to an air-conditioned place and lie down. Loosen or remove clothing. Take a cool bath. Take sips of cool sports drinks with salt and sugar. Call your healthcare provider if symptoms get worse or last more than an hour.

HEAT STROKE
Signs: Extremely high body temperature (above 103 degrees). Red, hot and dry skin with no sweat. Rapid, strong pulse. Dizziness, confusion or unconsciousness
Actions: Call 9-1-1 or get the person to a hospital immediately. Cool down with whatever methods are available until medical help arrives.
