Its been a while. My health has been demanding with 4-5 appointments per week this year, on top of working full time. Im tired. Haha.

I had decided not to push myself and enter the State Fair a few months ago. Im working on simplifying.

Then, two weeks before fair entries were due, inspiration struck, and I wanted to make a gift for someone who has tremendously helped me. So, I decided to make two of these bamboo bowls. One as a gift and one for me that I could enter into the fair. I barely managed to get it done!

It was my first time doing resin, and I just love the little resin koi pond with the little fishies (one is hiding!) and a crepe paper lotus. It was tricky figuring out how to get them all to stay while the resin set. But I got there!

So if you're local to Utah, you can see this little gem in person at the State Fair for the next two weeks in the Creative Arts building! 🫢

FINALLY had a snow day so I could photograph my snow icicley hat (anyone have suggestions for a good wintery name?)!

It features three white amaryllis crepe paper flowers surrounded by white berry branches, silver leaves, crystal vines, and "icy" fir branches on a sinamay hat base. A pearl veil adds a touch of vintage class. I added a lot of clear and silver beads looping and hanging down to allude to an icicle dripping. It was such a fun hat to make and add to my growing hat collection.

It's been months since I've been up to making anything :( but I have an office christmas party coming up soon and I'm in charge this year. (I don't think they realize the ✨️monster✨️ they've unleashed mwahahaha) so we're all going to have party hats. I'm making mine and these amaryllis blooms are going to be the main floral for it. Probably. Still not entirely sure the direction I'm headed in. But it'll be white (no one should be shocked by this, lol. I love white florals) and "icy".

I love still photos on IG (im old school IG like that, lol), so here are some photos of my mounted and framed orchid and rose fascinator, just in time for St. Patrick's Day. :)

I love the combination of green, white, and gold in this one, and it was so much fun to wear! People were shocked when they found out it paper...and handmade! πŸ₯° I'm pretty proud of that! Lol!

And see if you can spot the pink flamingo head peaking through in one photo. It was a shout-out for my sister and my coworkers and the d.r.a.m.a. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ she caused at my office. Funny story: Last year she mailed so many mini flamingos there and had them hidden and got all my coworkers wrapped up in it and I was getting flamingos from all over the office (in interoffice mail, literally in my sealed lunch, left in my desk, etc....AND, mailed to my house from all over the country. It was amazing. And I got low-key dramatic one day bc it wouldn't stop and didn't know where it was coming from. I was irritated that my sister wouldn't stop lying. πŸ˜‚ She finally fessed up after two weeks of lying. Lol. I still get random flamingo shoutouts at work from my boss. He loves to wear a flamingo tie when he knows I'll be in. πŸ˜‚ So I hid a flamingo in my hat. πŸ˜‚ TO BE FAIR, this was retribution for me ducking with mini resin ducks sister's house....repeatedly last year. so....yeah, well played. hahahaha

Any suggestions of what I should try to tackle next...besides revenge πŸ˜‰? I have some more ideas in the pipeline for another vendor fair that I've got coming up at the end of April, so stay tuned! πŸ’œ

This might be my favorite project yet! The brief was "wear your wackiest St. Patrick's day outfit" to my office lunch party today. I didn't have anything beyond a pair of very tame earrings, so I decided (and challenged myself) to make a fun little facinator using materials I already had. It wasn't quite so little (24"!), and I did end up buying the feathers... but otherwise, I did it! And I won the "best outfit" prize, hahaha. And who says you can't have orchids for St.Patrick's Day? 🀣

The facinator has orchids in white doubletette crepe paper, roses made from gold heavy crepe paper, and leaves from white doublette crepe dyed green using a variety of greens, blues and yellows. There are also little sparkling clovers (and a hidden four leaf one!) throughout the arrangement. The loops are crepe covered wires. And gold leaf just to give it that extra kiss of something extra!

I had a hanging 8" terrarium, so I made another redwood sorrel inspired by a recent trip to Muir Woods (see my last post and the last two photos). I love how this one turned out! Its one of my favorites! It features lots of little sprouts, hand crafted pine needles, and features a piece of real wood. And it's still available - send a dm!

A few months ago I went to San Francisco for a work trip. Well, really, it was a vacation that had 16 hours of work lectures in it πŸ˜‰πŸ˜† (dont worry, boss was fully aware, lol). But man, we hustled that trip and packed so much in! I love the Bay Area and by far the highlight, among many, was Muir Woods! It had been sooo long since I'd been. The last photo is my favorite photo from the morning we spent there. It was absolute perfection. It had rained just before we got there so it was misty and drippy, but dry while we were there. It was quiet and peaceful. And I loooove the trees.

And I fell in love with redwood sorrel! Its such a beautiful little plant! I mistakenly called it a clover and one of the naturalists we talked to gently educated me and pointed out a bandana slug nearby! πŸ’œ So this little 5" terrarium is a homage to the incredible morning we spent wandering around the woods enjoying one of natures finest creations. Its all crepe paper and wire. Even the pine needles. πŸ’œ
