I still have so much gratitude in my heart from the inaugural BLK Girl Fest!
Thank you to T'Keyah Bennett for thinking of me to lead an activation for the attendees at the festival. I broke down the Tamia Line Dance into a few easy to remember notes, encouraged folks to keep their focus on their hearts and not their heads and made learning this dance MUCH more simple and approachable than it seems.
More importantly than learning the steps, I love teaching because I get to remind people of so many other important life lessons. 1. It’s okay to mess up. Just jump back in as soon as you can and look to your neighbor if you need help. 2. Talk out loud what you need to be doing. If you’re focused more so on what you should be doing, the critical voice in your head doesn’t have much room to tell you what you’re doing wrong. 3. Trust yourself! Your body has learned the moves and seen them on repeat, it’s on you to connect mind and body and go with what you already intuitively know.
I had such a good time teaching and hope attendees enjoyed my session and the rest of the festival as much as I did.
I can’t wait to see what’s in store next year ✨
