Yesterday I carved up a giant watermelon and served it to a gaggle of 10 year olds. It was approximately 120 degrees outside and they were instantly sticky and grateful.

And just like that, the day was a success. No matter what else happened that day, I honored the tried and true equation of:
Kids + Summer + Watermelon = Joy. Wholesome Joy.

So if you’re sweaty and tired and quietly wishing it was January, might I suggest- watermelon. It makes adults very happy as well by the way.

It’s finally hot in Minneapolis!☀️

Just wanted to share some pics I took on this morning’s walk with my kids. We got out before the heat made it too sticky, and collected berries. June berries along the boulevard, black raspberries in our alley, and sour cherries from a generous neighbor’s yard.

85 degrees and climbing!☀️

I have loved our cool June- mid-seventies, chilly mornings, low sweat index. But it just isn’t summer til we get a little sticky and miserable.

And it’s the heat we need for hanging by the lake over the 4th of July. This year our country celebrates 250 years- cool! And you can stitch up some red, white and blue to commemorate the holiday.
