A sad update from Open Eye.

A note from Producing Artistic Director Joel Sass:

Due to ongoing environmental remediation following the fire in our neighboring building, we have made the difficult decision to cancel the remaining performances of LIZZIE: The Rock Musical.

To everyone who was looking forward to experiencing this production: we are deeply sorry. We know how disappointing this news is, and we share that heartbreak with you. Despite our team’s determination and incredible enthusiasm from our audience, current conditions make it impossible to complete the run.

Our box office team has reached out directly to all ticket holders. You will have the option to convert your ticket into a tax-deductible donation to support our recovery and artists, exchange your ticket for credit toward an upcoming production, or receive a full refund. If you have immediate questions, please contact our box office at [email protected].

Taking this pause ensures we can fully remediate and restore our physical space. We expect all work to be completed shortly, and we look forward to welcoming you back this season, starting with the FULL MOON PUPPET SHOW (Nov. 12–14), followed by our new holiday musical THE WÜNDERBAR by Josef Evans, opening December 3.

Attention Minneapolis designers and technicians!

The City of Minneapolis’ Arts & Cultural Affairs department, in collaboration with Pillsbury House Theatre are developing a report on the state of technical arts and design in the Twin Cities Metro Area. For this, they are looking for area technicians designers to take this 10-15 minute.

Share your insights from your career as a technician no matter what side of live entertainment and production you’re from – sound, lights, carpentry, costuming, painting, AV, rigging, camera operation, and beyond. They want to hear about your experience in theater, music, conferences/conventions, sports, dance, museums, festivals and all other forms of live events.

The reviews are coming in, and you don't want miss this peculiar politically painted pageant!

"Yellow Tree's Artistic Director Austene Van directs the play, and gets the tone just right - zany and hilarious and brutal. This play is a wild ride, but just hold on tight, because this team knows where it's going and how to get there. The three-person cast is fantastic and just a joy to watch as they inhabit these characters that start out as caricatures, and turn into something more.

"The present-day costumes fit the characters to a T (a plain suit, hippie blouse and pants, and the most fabulous red, white, and blue pageant gear), with some fun costumey founding father clothes and wigs thrown on for the middle scene."

It's been a busy month in the Twin Cities since returning from Wisconsin! This fall I have three very different shows in the works.

Up first and opening TONIGHT, a new adaptation of The Secret Garden at Stages Theatre Company

Followed closely by the return of LIZZIE the Rock Musical at Open Eye Theatre. If you missed it last year, grab you tickets now! It's likely to sell out again.

And just in time for midterm elections, the politically painted pageantry of The Taming opens at Yellow Tree Theatre
