I believe the most overlooked problem in LATE TALKERS is receptive language delays. -Laura Mize, SLP (paraphrased)

I couldn’t agree with her more. 🙌🏻

Let me be clear, I don’t have research to back this, this is a statement based on years of clinical experience. 👶🏻👶🏾👶🏼

But mama (and therapists) PLEASE hear me. 📣

Children don’t use language until they understand it! 🧠

As moms AND therapists we often think because they can identify 3 animals that they have mastered the skill. 🙅🏻‍♀️

That because they can follow 2 directions that that skill is mastered as well.🙅🏻‍♀️

It is so important to back it up and really make sure receptive language is where it needs to be before we expect to see much expressive language growth.🙌🏻
