Today Facebook showed me a memory I wasn’t expecting.
A baby shower invitation.
June 7, 2014. For Baby Cash.
It’s amazing how one small piece of paper can take you back to a completely different version of yourself. A young mom excited to meet her baby. Making plans. Dreaming about the future. Counting down the days.
For those who haven’t experienced child loss, grief isn’t always triggered by the obvious things. Sometimes it’s a song. A smell. A date. Or a Facebook memory that appears out of nowhere.
Eleven years later, I still cry.
Not because I’m stuck in the past. Not because I haven’t healed. But because love doesn’t end when a life does.
If you’re a grieving parent and you find yourself emotional over something others might think is “just an old picture” or “just a memory,” please know you’re not alone. Grief has no expiration date. The tears don’t mean you’re moving backward. Sometimes they simply mean your love is still present.
Today reminded me of something important: before there was heartbreak, there was joy. Before there was loss, there was anticipation. Before there was grief, there was a little boy who was celebrated, loved, and wanted by so many people.
And that part of his story matters too.
So today I’ll let myself cry. I’ll let myself remember. And I’ll be grateful that after all these years, the world still finds little ways to remind me that Cash was here.
Always loved. Always missed. Always my son. 💙💚
