Boning in the bodice of a formal gown helps to support the fabric itself, such as chiffon or tulle. I can still take in the sides of the bodice by removing the boning, taking in the seam and replacing the boning. And today it is not made of actual bones or metal, but a type of polyester, making it bit more comfortable. It does cost a bit more to take in a dress with boning because of the extra step of removing and replacing it. However you will be pleased with the result!

This beauty needed a hem and the sides taken in. These are likely the most common alterations needed, along with shoulders being raised/straps shortened.

Keep in mind when choosing a dress that beading on it will always make the alterations more costly because when the beaded part needs adjusted, the beads must be removed and then replaced once the adjustment is made. I enjoy beadwork *and* it is time consuming!

I’m hoping that this young woman had a lovely evening at prom and I’d love to see her all dressed up!

Recently I made these brightly colored pillows. The inserts are feather pillows from Ikea. And the fabric is simple, but durable cotton duck. The envelope style easily slips off of the insert so they can be washed with your regular load of laundry. Kiddo and dog friendly!

And this pale blue beauty also had a short train that needed a bustle for dancing. A simple one-point bustle requires a loop made with a chain stitch.
