She’s finished! “
“Nuances de Bleu”, created with four layers of royal blue sinamay fabric features a glorious combination of handcrafted royal blue, turquoise, and light blue feather mounts. Turquoise blue veiling peeks through the feathers for a little added interest.
Nuances de Bleu would look fabulous with outfits in royal blue of course, but also light blue, aqua, or even hot pink or yellow outfits with some blue…use your imagination!

When I started making hats four years ago I used a glue gun a lot. After diving into the professional millinery field, I learned that hand sewing EVERYTHING resulted in a clean, professional finish. I may use my sewing machine sometimes, but not often.

Having said that, the only time I pick up a glue gun is when making a feather mount! It’s so much easier than stitching 100 feathers onto a felt base!
Check back with me this week, I hope this beautiful royal blue hat I’ve been working on will be finished!

She’s small, but she makes a big statement! This percher hat is covered with lime green satin, and then a sheer overlay with pink sequin flowers. She is adorned with a handmade pink satin rose.

She’s small, but makes a big statement!
Made with 4 layers of sinamay, this percher is covered in lime green satin and a beautiful overlay of pink sequined flowers. I was going to add the sculptured pink silk abaca loops, but decided to use this handcrafted pink satin rose that I made yesterday.

Today’s project was making a totally crafted satin rose. Each petal is hand stitched and gathered at the base to form a natural shape. The petals are then sewn together, from smallest to largest, and joi’la! we have a lovely pink satin rose!

When a sculptor, artist, craftsman finishes a creation, they usually sign or have some sort of insignia on it. For milliners, it’s their label. To me, each creation is a journey. The sewing of my label is when that journey has ended.

This little lilac hat with the silk abaca bows and veiling turned out really pretty! Here’s an AI image of what the front, side, and back look like. (AI made the hat slightly larger on the front that it actually is)
Message me for details.

Well, it was supposed to be a fascinator, but turned out to be a little hat!
That was fun, but making 10 silk abaca bows, and arranging and sewing them into place took all day!
(This shot is looking down at the front; I’ll post it on the mannequin head later so you can see the sides and back)
