Due to school closures Friday, we've decided to CLOSE as well.
🌀 11 AM WEDNESDAY ISAIAS UPDATE - PREPARATIONS SHOULD BE UNDERWAY: Tropical Storm Isaias is expected to strengthen into a hurricane before approaching the central Gulf Coast late Friday into Saturday.
A Hurricane Watch is in effect from Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, to Indian Pass, Florida, including the Alabama coast and much of northwest Florida. A Storm Surge Watch is also in effect from the mouth of the Mississippi River to Yankeetown, Florida. The current surge forecast includes 5-7 feet for Mobile Bay and much of the Alabama/northwest Florida coast.
The official forecast cone still covers a meaningful portion of the central Gulf Coast, but several newer model runs have nudged farther east northwest Florida. That trend is worth watching, but individual model shifts are not a forecast by themselves. The exact landfall point will continue to be refined.
For now, the message is simple: use today and Thursday to prepare. Tropical-storm conditions could begin Friday, and hurricane conditions are possible later Friday.
A few things to take care of now:
- Review your hurricane and evacuation plan.
- Check water, food, medications, batteries, flashlights, chargers and pet/baby supplies.
- Charge phones and power banks and prepare for possible extended power outages.
- Fuel your vehicle and protect important documents/insurance information.
- Secure outdoor furniture, trash cans, grills and decorations.
- Know your tornado safe place and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
- If you live in a coastal, low-lying or flood-prone area, know where you would go if officials tell you to evacuate.
Heavy rain, flooding, damaging winds, storm surge, dangerous surf and tornadoes are all possible depending on the final track.
Do not wait until Friday to begin preparing. The weather is still quiet now, use that time wisely.
