Fun facts: Mobile, AL is the birthplace of Mardi Gras in America, and its carnival celebrations attract visitors from around the world each year. The city’s first Mardi Gras celebration, which is the oldest in the United States, dates back to 1703, 15 years before New Orleans was founded.
Also, Mobile is known as the “Azalea City” due to its stunning azalea blooms in the spring, which are celebrated annually during the Azalea Trail Run. The city’s historic district, known as “Mobile’s Dauphin Street Historic District,” is filled with charming Victorian-era homes, boutique shops, and lively nightlife venues.
Mobile is situated along the Mobile River/Mobile Bay and is a bustling port city, playing a significant role in Alabama’s economy and history. Hank Aaron, one of baseball’s greatest players and the former home run king, was born and raised in Mobile.
