Maine Heritage Weavers is a family-owned textile company that specializes in American-made woven bedding and throws.

These former Bates Fabrics employees use the same equipment to weave these superior quality bedspreads as taught to them by their parents and grandparents.

Before weaving can even start, all of the warp yarn (the vertical threads on the loom) must be tightly and evenly wound onto a large warp beam which is then installed into the loom. Because there are so many threads to keep organized, this process involves creating several smaller "section beams" and then combining them into the final, large beam.

Did you know that it takes 5 section beams to create a single warp that makes the loops on terry bedspreads? That's 520 cones per warp and nearly 3 million yards of yarn!

Today we celebrate the birthday of our nation’s first First Lady, Martha Washington. During the Revolutionary War, Martha spent winters alongside the troops in military encampments organizing supplies, sewing clothing, and offering comfort to soldiers enduring unimaginable hardship. In doing so, she became a lasting symbol of care, endurance, and service. Those same qualities are still woven into every Martha Washington’s Choice Bedspread made today.

Before anything goes on the loom, this is where it all starts! It's hard to imagine that hundreds (or thousands, depending on the style we're weaving) of yarn strands get neatly organized and wrapped on a single warp beam. Incredible!
