When working with this vintage Christian Dior silk robe from the late 80’s, I backed the pattern pieces with light fusible interfacing to prevent fraying and help stabilize the seams. With my design and couture experience, I knew I could create this keepsake without hesitation. It turned out well and my client loved it. 🥰

This Keepsake Tie Memory Bunny was made for my mother out of my stepfather’s dress ties. She loved it. I have to say, I really like this one. It’s the silky feel of this grief lovey I like the most. ❤️

How to Order: Pricing. Process. & Policies
At Crimson Knot Studio, I transform the clothing of a deceased loved one or childhood milestones into a handcrafted keepsake. Each Lovey is created with the highest level of technical skill to ensure the spirit held within the fabric is preserved through professional design and construction.

1. Pricing & Services
Our pricing structure accounts for the technical complexity and professional labor hours needed to deconstruct and artistically reimagine your specific garments.

The Signature Lovey (Base): $75.00
Design and construction from 1 or more standard tight-weave garments. Tight-weave fabrics ensure the filling remains secure and does not migrate through the fabric pores.

Specialty Handling & Preservation: +$25.00
Required for all knits, loose weaves, and silky garments. Because most knits and loose weaves have gaps between the loops and weaves, and stretch, these fabrics require stabilization to keep the stuffing in. I hand-apply fusible interfacing to preserve the fabric’s structure to ensure the Lovey keeps its shape.

The Necktie Lovey: $125.00
Minimum of 5 ties required (more is recommended). Includes the complex artistic design and construction and light interfacing on all pieces. This prevents fraying while providing the necessary structure to keep the Lovey’s shape. No knitted ties.

Weighted Bottom & Feet: +$15.00
Adds the comforting, grounding weight of polypropylene pellets to the base and feet of the Lovey.

Keepsake Loveys and Blankets: Starting at $75 + Custom Quote
Preserving childhood milestones, from baby clothes and sports jerseys to stuffed Loveys or patchwork blankets. These projects require a minimum of 5+ garments to design and construct. Pricing begins at the base rate with a custom quote added for complexity.

2. The Design and Construction Process
Every keepsake created at Crimson Knot Studio is a work of technical engineering and design. Constructing an 18-inch Lovey from upcycled fabric requires between 5 and 10 hours of active labor, as working with pre-worn clothing adds complex steps that are not present when using new store-bought fabric.

Breakdown of Construction Time:
Preparation & Interfacing (2–5 hours):
This involves carefully deconstructing the original garment, pressing the fabric, and professionally applying infused interfacing to individual pattern pieces to prevent stretching and ensure the fabric pores are sealed.

Cutting & Layout (1–2 hours):
Because upcycled fabric may have logos, seams, or buttons, I must strategically place pattern pieces to highlight the garment’s best features or avoid worn spots.

Machine Sewing (2–4 hours):
Sewing the 20+ individual pieces together requires precision. Small pattern pieces are more difficult to sew together.

Stuffing & Finishing (1–3 hours):
Hand-sewing to close the final stuffing gaps in the fabric requires meticulous hand-stitching to ensure the bear looks symmetrical and professional.

3. Mandatory Pre-Cut Protocols
No sale is finalized until the following steps are completed:

Photo Verification:
Before shipping, you must provide clear photos of the garments. This allows me to verify fabric stability and finalize the design and construction plan.

Hygiene Requirement:
All clothing must be laundered or professionally dry-cleaned prior to shipping.

Safety Clause:
To protect the studio environment, any clothing received that is dirty, soiled, or carries a strong odor will be returned immediately at the client's expense, and the project will be cancelled and refunded after return shipping is deducted.

4. Studio Policies
Payment:
Full payment is required upfront via Apple Pay, Venmo, PayPal, or Cash App. We do not offer payment plans.

Timeline:
Please allow 4–6 weeks for the design and construction of your keepsake.

All Sales Final:
Due to the custom nature of these items and the use of irreplaceable materials, there are no returns, exchanges, or refunds.

Minimalist Design:
Loveys are created with a faceless design to allow the memory of your loved one to remain the focus. I do not embroider names or patches on keepsakes.

Scrap Policy:
Threads and micro-scraps are disposed of respectfully. If you wish for larger scraps to be returned, please indicate this at the time of order. Otherwise, I will "retire" them with care on your behalf.

Shipping Liability:
Crimson Knot Studio is not responsible for carrier damage or loss. All items are shipped in moisture-barrier packaging.

5. Fabric Integrity
If a garment is received that is physically too fragile or dry-rotted to withstand the construction process, I will contact you to discuss alternatives before any cuts are made.

6. Care & Preservation Instructions
Because your keepsake is constructed from upcycled, pre-worn textiles and specialized internal stabilizers, it requires gentle handling to maintain its design and construction integrity.

Display Only:
These keepsakes are intended for adult collectors and sentimental display. They are not toys and are not intended for rough play by children or pets.

Spot Cleaning:
If the keepsake becomes dusty or soiled, gently spot clean with a damp, lint-free cloth and a mild, clear detergent. Never submerge the keepsake in water.

No Machine Washing:
Do not place your keepsake in a washing machine or dryer. The heat and agitation can compromise the infused interfacing, damage delicate upcycled fibers, and cause the internal filling to shift or clump.

Avoid Direct Sunlight:
To prevent the original fabric colors from fading or the fibers from becoming brittle, display your keepsake away from direct sunlight.

Odor Refresh:
If the keepsake needs refreshing, you may place it in a sealed container with a small sachet of lavender or cedar for 24–48 hours. Do not spray perfumes or chemical fabric refreshers directly onto the textile.

7.The "Work-Start" Guarantee
Commitment to Craft:
Your payment covers the cost of specialized reinforcement materials and sewing supplies, and secures a 5–10 hour block of my professional labor.

Queue Placement:
Your 4–6 week production timeline begins only after both the full payment and the physical clothing have been received at the studio.

Confirmation:
Once payment is received, you will receive a formal confirmation of your order and your projected completion date.

Ready to begin the journey?
Please contact the studio at [email protected] with photos of your garments to receive your personalized quote.

Sometimes, a hug needs a little extra weight. For a sweet friend dealing with the loss of his father, I created this custom memory bear with a weighted bottom. For someone with spina bifida or sensory needs, that extra half-pound of pressure can be a powerful tool to reduce stress and provide comfort. I am so honored to provide this "weighted hug" in memory of his dad. ❤️

My first Grief Lovey was crafted from a shirt found in my grandmother’s fabric box. It now sits above my demonstration machine in the classroom, serving as a guardian of the craft she taught me. It’s more than just a bear; it’s a tribute to my grandparents that brings light and inspiration to my workspace every single day. ❤️

My grandmother taught me to sew at age four, sparking a passion that led me to my career as an FCS teacher. After making my first Grief Lovey, I went searching through a box of her old fabric in my classroom. I found a print covered in bears that appeared to have hearts on their chests, echoing the very design I had just created. Even though they were tiny pockets and not hearts, I felt her presence. It was the confirmation I needed that I’m on the right path.❤️
