Before we share this viral meme — that exact quote doesn't appear anywhere verifiable. Stephen King has called Trump scarier than his novels, but "tumor in America's veins" reads like a fabrication dressed up in his voice. Worth checking authenticity before it spreads.

But the bigger issue is the argument itself. Calling Trump a tumor is America's favorite form of self-exoneration. A tumor is something foreign. Something that invaded a healthy body from outside.

He didn't. He was elected. Twice.

Trump didn't inject the ugliness into America — he just told people they didn't have to hide it anymore. The racism, the cruelty, the contempt for the vulnerable — it was always there, dressed in the borrowed clothes of civility. He handed out permission slips, and the line was longer than anyone wanted to admit.

The horror story isn't Trump. It's how many people were waiting for exactly him.
