The Hobbit is one of my favorite films and books, so I was very excited to get started on this brand-new pattern by , “the Shire Mittens”. Take a walk through Hobbiton and reminisce on the characters, and adventures in Tolkien’s storybook adventures. I have had the pleasure of testing for Sarah of a few times over the last year and a half now. Her work is detailed, challenging, and always turns out incredible! I am incredibly proud of this amazing group of grade school/middle school kiddos. They are all ages 9-11 ish and are part of our Catholic co op. I am currently teaching a fiber works class and our first semester was knitting and felting. Each child made their own pair of knitting needles, and learned how to knit a basic rectangle. After they completed their knitting, we worked on wet felting and then needle felting. They created appliqués and felted them directly onto their knitted mats to share with their families for Christmas. These kids have worked hard to create their masterpieces. Next semester the kids are weaving with hula hoops, and then learning how to process a fleece from start to finish, including making their own drop spindles to spin on. I am considering teaching a similar class beginning next winter after my shoulder surgery and recovery is over, or at least, I am able to use my arm again. Surgery is set for May5 for two of my four rotator cuff tendons. 😣
