50 Days In. 50 Days Without a Storefront.
After nearly 20 years in retail, I’m figuring out what this next chapter looks like. And I’ve learned a few things.
1. I still love what I do. Finding great pieces, discovering brands, and putting together edits. Turns out, I didn’t need a storefront to love the part of retail that made me fall in love with it.
2. I’ve gained followers. I’ve lost followers. I get it. Things are different. I’m asking people to follow something I haven’t entirely figured out myself.
3. I hate being in front of the camera. There, I said it. Maybe my confidence has taken a hit this past year. Maybe I’m just not that person. Watching myself on video makes me cringe. Still working on that one!
4. Starting over is humbling. Some days I feel like I’m onto something. Other days I wonder if anyone is even paying attention.
5. I miss the people. The customers, the girls I got to work with on the floor, the conversations, helping someone find something they love. I don’t miss the overhead or the stress, but I definitely miss that part.
6. Loving something and making a living from it are two very different things. I’m learning that the hard way. But I’ve been in this position with a storefront too.
7. I don’t know exactly where this is going. And for someone who’s always had a plan, that’s uncomfortable.
So, 50 days in, I don’t have an amazing success story. I’m still learning, still trying, and still finding things I love.
To everyone who’s stuck around, thank you.
Here’s to the next 50 days.
