We had some very special visitors at The Golden Rule Store today!

Members of the global leadership team of Sweden-based Blåkläder, including CEO Anders Carlsson, visited our store to see our newly expanded Blåkläder workwear department!

During their visit, they surprised us with a custom commemorative pair of Blåkläder work boots, complete with The Golden Rule Store's 100th anniversary emblem!

As a family-owned business celebrating 100 years in Muncie, it means a great deal to us that Blåkläder would recognize this milestone in such a thoughtful way.

A big thank you to everyone at Blaklader for making today a memorable one!

We're just ONE WEEK away from our 100th Anniversary Customer Appreciation Day, and our crew is getting excited!

We’ve been going through old photos and newspaper clippings as we prepare to celebrate 100 years of The Golden Rule Store, and this one felt especially worth sharing.

This article was published in 1985, as the store approached its 60th anniversary. Ralph and Mark Galvin are pictured inside our original downtown Muncie location.

At the time, Ralph said:

“You could have walked in here 60 years ago, and the only change would be some racks I built. Everything else is like it was.”

The article describes the old store’s creaking hardwood floors, pine shelves, stacks of shoe boxes, and wooden theater chairs where customers sat to try on shoes.

With the original building soon to be demolished, Ralph and Mark were preparing to move the store, hoping to preserve as much of it as they could.

Four decades later, we’re still here. Many of the racks pictured are still in our store today. So are the wooden theater chairs.

A lot has changed since 1926. Some things haven’t.

We’re pretty proud of that.

“Buy a Pair Worth Repair.”

These Red Wings came to us with plenty of life left in the leather, but soles that had seen better days. We sent them out for professional Red Wing repair and resoling, and now they're ready for plenty more miles.

In a world where so much gets thrown away and replaced, there's something satisfying about repairing a good pair of boots and keeping them going.
