Not exactly clay related content, but kind of. Hang in there for story time! 😅
Friday morning, my husband left the house pretty early. The sun wasn’t completely up yet but he texted me (sound asleep with our dogs upstairs), to let me know he thought it was a groundhog hole, and to be careful letting the dogs out. So, he put a raised mesh dog bed over top of it just in case.
I get up and around, see that text, and decide to go investigate. I lift back the dog bed and immediately yell a string of expletives, because unless it was a 300lb groundhog with chisels for paws, there was no way this is a groundhog hole.
I then did what any woman does when something goes wrong with her house… I called my Daddy 🤓 He told me not to touch anything until we could get the Borough out to look at it.
On Saturday, my husband who listens about as well as a damn toddler, decided to go play in the hole. He opened more of it up, which is what you’re seeing in the third photo. You can also see there’s a pipe in there, which made me even more concerned than I already was.
Fast forward to this morning at promptly 8:30AM when the borough office opened, I called in a panic asking someone to please come look. Thankfully, they had someone here within 10 minutes.
That last photo is a 6’ man STANDING INSIDE the hole. I told his buddy he was either really brave… or really stupid 😂
To summarize, they think it was an old well that has obviously collapsed. The problem now is that the hole is currently about 3’ in diameter at the opening. However, that’s because some of the ground hasn’t caved yet. The hole should actually be about 6’ in diameter and is about 8-10’ deep.
No one seems to know what the pipe is, but I was assured it isn’t gas or it would be marked. They did warn me it could be sewer and to be very careful when filling the hole back in, because if that breaks, we’re gonna immediately know 💩🤢
All THAT to say, we’re now going to have an impromptu drop next Thursday at 8p et to help me pay for the spontaneous opening to hell we now have in our backyard 🫠
It’s moments like these I’m thankful to be a small business owner who can be in charge of making a little extra money when things like this happen to help offset the blow.
Home ownership is the biggest sinking ship we all hop aboard. Am I right or am I right? 😩
Stay tuned to find out whatever it is I end up making, cause at this point, I don’t even know 😂
