Jackie Quilts

Jackie Quilts quilting 40 years now, never tire of them..ever ever... where all my family lived. They did the long arm quilting on the tops.

Well, I was lonely living in Missouri in 1989 when we transferred there with GM to a new plant, from Calif. I was babysitting for someone and one day she said, "do you sew?"..yes, I said, She said, she knew a lady that needed seamstresses to piece quilts..never heard of such a thing..I went to see this lady, miles away, winding through the dense Missouri backroads..There they were, a quilting busi

ness, and a BIG one..I applied, made a lone star in a week, and was hired, hence making 6 lone stars a week then onto 6 dahlias, and so on. Upon moving back to Calif in 1993, I dreamed of owning a long arm..In 2000, I was fortunate to be able to buy one and the rest is a long trail of thread and batting scraps:) Quilting has changed my life and added so much to my days~!!~

CIVIL WAR, CAST IRON....fabric medley names, aren't they great?

Moda fabrics always outdo themselves ..

I completed all my table runners from the choice fabrics....deeming them ready to store in the old oak drawer for the Fall Craft Fair.

Now onto the remaining 3 cozy tea table toppers..

Cool little items for home or hearth..always, with quilts.

COZY TEA..for small distresses...and a little quilt .

The day was busy. Then I heard a faint voice at my screen door, Jackie. Are you home?

I saw my neighbor, shaking, standing on the porch. Holding her cell.

I asked her in to sit down. The cozy tea piece was on the table. I had finished the binding that morning. Still on the table for my own admiration.

I asked if she wanted a cup of tea. " yes"...as we sat she calmed and admired the little quilt. The shaking stopped and we worked out the issue with her cell phone problem...continuing to talk about quilts and tea.....I walked her home , she felt much better !!

Again, the spirit of quilting showed up.

QUILTS CAN BE MESSY ..at first..

Finally the Tommy Bahamas came in. We met for lunch and made the exchange. This will be Tommy #4 quilt from over the years.

Meet my dear friend Dr. Brian... he's retired now from practicing chiropractic and you name it in his health practice.

The Tommy shirts have been his "work" shirts for many years. He says the one of a kind shirts help his patients feel comfortable and relaxed. But of course I also know his trips to Maui help him relax. And to buy the latest Tommies for work.

He and his wife have 4 adult children, they each want one of his quilts one day. So, here they begin in a visual pile..and one of Brian, his giant enthusiasm fuels me to let the cutting begin !!! Messy or not today...It will be a beautiful project @ Paradise Soon !!!

I DOVE IN HEAD FIRST..... I followed a reliable seller and collector of old quilts..she repurposes the best parts of those gems..and sells off bundles of the rest.

I bought a 3 pound lot..and it came late yesterday...

There is so much to work with I have no clue where to begin..one is still half a quilt..faded but sweet..

I had lots of interest in cutter pieces at my yard sale. Selling most of what I offered..one gal is just getting started sewing ..and bought a pile, it was refreshing to see her excitement...

So....where to begin..it comes to mind at 2 A.M...

Making old new again..

I am on an Appalachia fb site and this all fits right in to their daily lives..

Could be called mundane, but to me the fabrics of my quilt and the dolls are fantastic !!!

Meet Erma Moore, Hattie Fisk and Hettie Hall.....all old ladies from my life...now in dolls

THERE IS A DRESS FOR EVERY APRON, and an apron for every dress.

I was given a box of fabrics and this little number was inside. I quilted and bound it.. and according to these books of vintage aprons and patterns...

There is an apron for every occasion ...they are icons of the American home.

WAIT FOR IT..it's connected..

Of course, quilts connect us. I made the flannel lap quilt and replaced a block with this sweet fawn embroidery piece salvaged from a tattered dresser runner. I loved the idea.

One day Tim was at my house. His friend Jesse had helped him do flooring in his house. And wouldn't take pay. Tim asked if he could give Jesse the quilt as Jesse loved quilts and he is a country mountain guy..

Connection now...Jesse asked Tim to help tear down a cabin on property he bought way in the woods. Tim refused pay. Jesse gave Tim the window...now it's mine.

Full circle quilting happens with Jackie Quilts.

RUSSIAN SUNFLOWER.....during covid a huge tub came to me from a local gal ..her kids grandma started the quilt in the 40's...the original package of cotton batting was labeled 1948. It was entirely hand sewn. Many blocks were done, many pieces waiting to become blocks included. It was all there as if it was yesterday.

It was planned to be 2 twin quilts, Diane wanted it to be made to King size...I set out to finish piecing the blocks to match original with permission to applique on my machine, to original muslin.

One twin was already sandwiched and hand quilted..my goal was to assemble blocks to size match the other twin, then seam together down the middle, then pin into machine adding the batting to the one half as I quilted. ..many freehand feathers and circular ones too.

It finished just stunningly gorgeous . I delivered the quilt. Her family was raised in a house I used to babysit in so I was excited to be there.

The "cream on top" was putting the quilt to bed....and the room was carpeted in lush red.

Oh my, the vibe had bloomed...we were both beyond satisfied ..some would say "over the moon".....

To this day I see Diane in town weekly..she never ceases to love her quilt all over again.
