When I first designed the Amos Chore Coat, I made it out of lambskin. I don’t remember if I intended for it to be leather or denim first, but I had some lambskin on hand, wanted a new jacket, and figured why not just skip the practice materials and see how it turns out?

I hadn’t figured out the pocket sizing or placement yet, and after finishing the entire jacket, I decided the pockets were too high. So I ripped them off and lowered them.

Problem was, that left a bunch of very obvious stitching holes.

I also have a hoarding problem when it comes to alligator scraps. I’ve basically saved every leftover piece from the last 10 years. So I grabbed a few random dies from around the shop, cut some shapes out of gator, and used them to cover the holes. A circle from a snap, part of an old backpack handle, a shape from an old duffle, even the scrap from a wallet thumb slot.

There really wasn’t a plan. I was just having fun with it.

That became my test jacket, and I wore it for the next year. It also became a huge conversation piece whenever people came into the shop.

This past June, Cindy and her husband drove a few hours to see our stonewashed Amos. While they were here, she spotted the original lambskin jacket and asked me to make one for her.

We took her measurements, added a Japanese wool lining, and last week I finally finished it, shown above.

Quality materials and craftsmanship, but still a little playful. 

I was just having fun when I designed this jacket, and it became our most popular piece and helped turn us into a full-on clothing brand after almost 10 years of making bags and wallets.

Moral of the story: have fun and make weird stuff sometimes. In the end, it’s just not that serious.

New keychains just dropped! We have a ton in stock and ready to ship.

These are all handmade from Horween Shell Cordovan in our Nashville studio. Shell cordovan is an extremely durable leather that maintains its shape beautifully through years and years of use. Its dense fibers and natural moisture resistance make it especially well suited for small goods like keychains that are constantly handled and exposed to the oils from your hands.

Like all our materials, these will only get better with age, developing a rich patina that’s completely unique to how you use it.

Back in December, I announced that we would be taking our last leather bag orders for the foreseeable future so we could focus more heavily on clothing. It has by far been the right decision for Loyal Stricklin, but also for me personally. At that point, I had been making bags almost daily for nearly 10 years, and I was ready for a change.

But right before the cutoff, a longtime customer came to me with one last, very ambitious request: a shell cordovan duffle.

He already owns a shell cordovan backpack I made for him, and wanted a duffle to complete his travel kit.

The design is based on our Weekender Duffle, but with a long list of custom features chosen by the client:

• Horween Shell Cordovan exterior in Color #8 and Natural
• Italian suede interior
• Hanging sunglasses pocket
• Antique brass hardware
• Custom engraved brass nameplate
• Full briefcase-style interior with padded laptop pocket
• Hidden AirTag pocket
• Rolled and lined handles
• Extended opening zipper
• Horween horsehide binding covering all interior seams

This one took about six months from start to finish, between change orders and waiting for Horween to have enough XXL shells available to accommodate my request. I worked on it mostly on weekends, little by little, and finally finished it up this past Friday.

It was a fitting way to close out nearly a decade of making bags day in and day out, and certainly one of the most ambitious bags I’ve ever made, but ill be happy to get back to making jackets tomorrow morning and having my Sunday mornings back for personal projects.

We have a pre-owned Calfskin Wayman Jacket up on the site and ready for a new home.

Originally made in January 2025, this jacket has seen two seasons of light wear. It’s nicely broken in and comfortable, but has clearly had an easy life.

We’ve thoroughly looked it over, cleaned and conditioned the leather, and given it our stamp of approval, and it’s ready for many more years of wear.
