The Bay Laurel Talisman
Orchard & Vine Collection
Realm of Hearth & Harvest
Long before bay laurel found its way into kitchens, where its fragrant leaves have seasoned soups, stews, and sauces for centuries, it was believed to hold a far older kind of magic.
To the ancient Greeks, the laurel was a symbol of strength, victory, and honor. Victors were crowned with its leaves, and its evergreen branches came to represent triumph that would endure. Across different cultures and centuries, the bay tree was also believed to offer protection. It was planted near homes and places of rest, while wreaths of its leaves were hung above doorways and beds to keep away misfortune and ill intent.
Bay laurel found its way into the realm of magic as well. Leaves were written upon with wishes, questions, and aspirations before being cast into the fire, where their smoke and ashes were said to reveal hints of what the future might hold. The leaves were used in charms for love, protection, prosperity, and the turning away of negativity.
There were even traditions of placing bay leaves beneath wedding cakes, believing the herb would bring happiness and harmony to a marriage.
This little leaf carries a remarkable history, part kitchen herb, part ancient symbol, and part magical talisman.
Now, preserved in copper through the art of electroforming, this bay leaf has become a relic of the Orchard & Vine, a reminder that sometimes the simplest things growing quietly around us have the oldest stories to tell.
May it bring you strength for the road ahead, protection for your home, and a little magic wherever you go.
