when I decided to make my first ever radio strap for the fire service. This is where it all started. Soon after many coworkers and outside agency's took notice and wanted items of their own, and thus a few years later Barred Custom Leather was born. Leatherwork also became a great way for me to relax and tinker with my hands. "Where did the owl come from?" This is a common question of how I came up with the idea of an owl for the face of my leather. Time jump circa 2020, sitting in my small shop I was currently working on renovating to make room for my leather shop as we awaited the arrival our soon to be baby boy. As I sat and pondered a name for the leather business a barred owl flew directly into the shop and perched itself onto the rafters. There it sat for hours as I worked and never moved, it wasn't until I finally shewed it out to close up for the night did it finally go about its evening. I felt that it was divine and couldn't pass the opportunity. Today multiple owls now roost and roam the property and have been a family icon along with the inspiration behind the business name.
