At just 9 years old, Montoia Murray stood on stage — and proved a child’s voice can carry a powerful message.
The fourth-grade student won first place in a local MLK Oratory Contest inspired by the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., rising above 165 students from 20 Houston schools. Contestants were judged on delivery, stage presence, memorization, and how deeply they connected with Dr. King’s message of justice, equality, and hope.
Montoia impressed the judges with her confidence, emotion, and understanding beyond her years. Her speech reminded everyone that Dr. King’s dream is not just history — it still lives through young voices brave enough to speak.
She won a $1,000 award, but her biggest victory was showing the world what one child can do with courage and purpose.
And now one question remains: how far will Montoia’s voice go from here?
