I had a fabulous time yesterday meeting the crew from Sue O'Very I Serger Coach and her Serger Dream Club. We talked all about interfacing - what it is, why you need it, how to apply it, and what to do if it betrays you.

I'd say we all BONDED over the topic! Here are a few takeaways:
✅ Match your interfacing to your project - woven or knit, weight and grain
✅ For fusible interfacing, trim down the seam allowance a bit before applying. A combo of heat, temperature and moisture will bond it.
✅ Let fusible interfacing cool and dry before you move it.
✅ If fusible interfacing bubbles or separates, try again with more pressure and steam, or apply for a longer time.
✅ For sew-in interfacing, use the same thread and stitch length as for your project. Sew about 1/4 inch from the edge, then trim down.
✅ Always test a swatch of interfacing on a scrap of your project fabric before you begin!

Thanks again for the invitation, Sookie!

The Style Falcon studio is all ready for my presentation tomorrow with Sue O'Very I Serger Coach serger school.

We're covering interfacing! Why you need it, what type to use, how to apply it, and what to do if you have an oops moment.

A lot of sewists have a love-hate relationship with interfacing. I'm hoping to demystify it and give it some love.

It's - let's get into some print matching!

A busy print can be a challenge. Luckily patterns have guideposts built in to help!

The waistline mark helps line up the front and the back, so the bust dart doesn't get in the way.

And sleeve notches help make sense of how a raglan wraps around a print motif.

My oldest sewing tools are probably this yardstick, shears and fabric loupe. They belonged to my husband's grandfather, who worked in the garment industry for decades. I would guess these tools are from the 1960s but I'm not sure.

I use the yardstick every day and I bring the loupe when I shop for fabric. The shears need sharpening - need to bring them to the guy at the farmer's market this week!

What's in your tool stash?

update on my home dec mending projects.

These linen-cotton Roman shades needed repairs from sunlight damage at the hem. I covered the damaged hem facing with wide ivory ribbon to shore them up. I used fusible adhesive web to place the ribbon and then tacked it down by hand

Next it was on to the window box seat covers. I washed them and realized I'd never finished the seams. I can't imagine why! Still, it was a good time to do it. A quick run through the serger and everything was tidy again.
