Thread color - should it match the button or the fabric? Assuming there's a difference, I usually match the thread to the button color.

Double yoke seams need grading to remove bulk. Trim the seam allowances and they'll nest nicely!

Sewing collars can be tricky! Sometimes you start at one end, sew to the other end, only to find that things don't quite line up. And the awkward bit is at center-front for everyone to see!

Here's a way to avoid that. Sew the ends down first! Then ease in the middle! Perfect collar every time!

A spicy layer for ! This is a Daring Duster in a red hot plaid textured velour to add warmth to my fall looks. Styled with other Style Falcon patterns - the Make a Point shirt and the Diamond Hem Trousers - plus some very wild boots by Betsey Johnson!

The is meant for light woven fabrics, so this was an experiment in adapting a pattern for heavier textiles. I'd say it worked well once I added a bit of room for turn of cloth and used lighter fabrics for the inner yoke, pockets and collar.

Thank you Whitney Luckenbill for hosting the Precious Fabric Challenge! Here's my completed project - a Daring Duster in a luxe rayon velour! I trimmed the armscyes and collar in a challis for contrast.

The is styled with the and - plus boots by Betsey Johnson for a really kick-ass look!

Unwrapping this burrito yoke for the was a bit of a struggle, but it can be done! If you want to use heavier fabric, the secrets are:
✅ Add 1/8 inch seam allowance to the yoke and backs
✅ Use a lighter fabric that has some stretch for the inner yoke - I'm using a rayon challis
✅ Stabilize the neckline thoroughly
✅ Take your time rolling, sewing and unrolling!

Like fabrics like this velour are notoriously uncooperative when pressing.

Try this!
👉 Protect your fabric with a press cloth.
👉 Hover an iron above the fabric.
👉 Hit the seam with steam.
👉 Press with your hands to set the seam.
👉 Let it cool before moving on.
