I genuinely don’t love horde-pile posts but I find myself in the middle of one. I guess this is really a post about the labor behind having a vintage store. Matt and I just spent a week in a basement, sorting through a beloved friend’s longtime collection that accidentally got flooded. The bottom layers were lost but there was plenty to save. This is me trying to decide what to squeeze into a couple of suitcases for August’s Louisiana Vintage Festival and sorting the rest into piles for next time round. When we get home there will be cleaning, mending, steaming, etc etc.- the slow fashion movement is real. Like fast food, fast fashion is so easy and so bad for you, the planet, for the exploitation of labor and natural resources. So why do people keep buying that crap? I’m often dumbfounded by the hypocrisy. Especially when I’m standing in a pile like this one. Nothing that we found is made of plastic. Much of this treasure is handmade vintage. It will take time to bring everything to the shop for your shopping pleasure, after crossing the country and being re-loved into near perfection. We’re flying home Wednesday to be back at the shop on Thursday, so we’ll see you soon with some real beauties. Please do yourself a favor and stop pushing that Temu button. There’s a person somewhere just like me fighting the landfill epidemic in order to bring you something you’ll never find anywhere else and doing the labor to make that possible. Sending love to my fellow vintage warriors, it takes a staunch heart to keep your chin up in these tough times, I see you and I love you for choosing heart over easy, ♥️
Three cheers to Jackie for holding down the shop these last two weeks, we really appreciate you being there and for being just the right person, Thank You friend.

Hello!
Our hours are abbreviated the next two weeks while we are away visiting family, teaching at camp and eating lots of huckleberry ice cream. Jackie is holding it down for us- Thanks Jackie!- please go by and say hi & bring her a delicious snowball or coffee treat! We stocked up the shop before we left with lots of treasure, maybe something special with your name on it?

We love it when our favorite people, like Kevin, S -pop by to complete their fits between our shop & Low Timers. Ham & Kelsey are some of the best folks imaginable and we’re so lucky to be neighbors with people that really practice community (We love them! This gem of a human, Kevin, a committed vintage fashionista, (born in this neighborhood!) found a perfect pair of Levi’s at Low Timers. Vintage denim with a gorgeous faded soft wash. Then came to us to try on his first pair of cowboy boots to complete the look. He looks amazing and it came together beautifully because of community. Locals know that we are committed to steering them in the right direction if we don’t have what they’re looking for- or if we know someone else who specializes in something perfect for them. We can count on our neighbors to do the same- It’s not a competition if you practice the idea of ‘more makes more’. We are the human faces of the grind of the fashion industry. We are the hands that take the time to do the labor of recycling, restoring, renewing. I’m contemplating this in the midst of the big machine of Prime Days. AND -I’m imagining-because our audience is limited by the shadow of big business-if you are reading this, you are probably a part of a community of people who are committed to the complete opposite. There’s no point system for shopping second hand. It takes time to go through a thrift store or vintage shop. It takes time to repair and restore. It’s SLOW fashion. But there is a bigger, longer lasting thrill in finding something that you’ve been dreaming of. Something that may be in your life forever and not headed to the landfill in a week’s time. So, without further ado-Huge Thanks to all those Tigers who decide to ignore Prime Days to shop small, rare & special in all of our Nola Vintage Community, you are geniuses!
Thanks Kevin, we really appreciate you!
