✊🏾 Did you know a FBA Black🧬 man👑 introduced dry cleaning to United States?
-
Thomas L. Jennings worked as a skilled tailor and while working with fabrics—silk, wool, and other delicate materials—he faced a persistent problem: traditional washing methods often ruined expensive garments. Water and soap could shrink or stain delicate fabrics, leaving them permanently damaged.
-
Through careful experimentation, he developed a process he called “dry scouring”—a method of cleaning clothes without water, using chemical solvents instead. This innovation revolutionized garment care and became the foundation for what we now know as dry cleaning.
-
In1821, Jennings was granted Patent No. X3306 for his dry scouring process at the age of thirty, making him one of the first Black Americans to receive a U.S. patent—an extraordinary accomplishment not only for what he invented but for the fact that he could legally claim ownership of his creation.

I encourage you to research more on this topic if you want to know more since the basics have been provided to you. Thomas Jennings is the topic today. Please do not come on my post making it about anything else or whining about how they don’t teach black history. It’s not their job to teach you your history. They come from people who don’t like you. It doesn’t matter how many times they smile in your face. Additionally, we only focus on FBA history and lineage only.
