Queen Charlotte of England (actually Queen Consort of Great Britain and Ireland) was the wife of King George III and one of the most influential queens in British history. She served as queen for nearly 60 years (1761–1818), making her one of the longest-serving consorts in British history.

Charlotte married King George III in 1761, only hours after meeting him in person for the first time.
• She was crowned at Westminster Abbey shortly after the wedding.
• Their marriage was considered unusually devoted and stable for a royal marriage of the time.
• They had 15 children, including:
• George IV
• William IV
• Princess Charlotte of Wales

Queen Charlotte was known for her love of culture and intellectual pursuits.

She supported:
• Music and composers
• Botany and science
• Education

She was a major patron of the famous composer
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, who performed for her as a child.

Charlotte also helped develop the royal botanical gardens at
Kew Gardens.

Queen Charlotte left a significant legacy:
• Charlotte, North Carolina is named in her honor and is nicknamed “The Queen City.”
• The flower Strelitzia (Bird of Paradise) was named after her duchy.
• She helped shape British cultural life through art, music, and science patronage.

She died in 1818 at age 74 at
Kew Palace.
