This display of Fly-Ties, inside a custom vitrine at the Ritz Paris, pays homage to the hotel’s most famous son, hotelier Charles Ritz.

Sent by his father to learn the hotel trade at the Ritz-Carlton in 1916, Charles Ritz fell in love with the sport of fly-fishing, escaping New York on the weekends for tranquil hours casting in the rivers of New England. On his lunch breaks at the hotel, he would refurbish old bamboo rods in the basement and sell them around the corner, at the Abercrombie & Fitch on Madison Avenue.

By the time Ritz returned to Paris in 1928, he was a leading voice in the world of fly-fishing, consulting on innovations in bamboo rods, mingling with devotees like Ernest Hemingway, and, in 1958, founding the International Fario Club, the most select fishing club in the world.

The Fly-Tie, only available at Bode Paris, is an extension of the boutique’s tribute to Charles Ritz—and to his relationship to sport, lifestyle, and the American outdoors. Available in a selection of colors, each tie is studded with hand-tied flies.

The Bode Fly-Tie comes from the long tradition of American sport, represented by the fly-fishers and outdoorsmen who have roamed the nation’s rivers for centuries. 

One such fisherman, Mr. Charles Ritz, was the paragon of this 20th-century sportsman: sent to learn the hotel trade at the Ritz-Carlton in 1916, he began refurbishing old bamboo fly rods in the basement during his lunch break and spending his weekends casting the rivers of New England. When Ritz returned to Paris in 1928, he had become a leading voice in the world of fly-fishing. 

Available in a range of colors, the Fly-Tie is scattered with hand-tied flies: an homage to sportsmanship, tradition, and the natural world. Each Fly-Tie is closed with a custom label, embossed with angling wisdom from Charles Ritz: “The young fisherman ignores the fundamental rule: the fisherman counts for 85 percent and the fly for only 15.”

In celebration of the launch of the Fly-Tie, celebrated angler Charles Jardine demonstrated the art of fly-tying at our Paris boutique. He tied a series of flies that were favorites of Charles Ritz and the Fario Club, the elite international fly-fishing society to which Ritz belonged. These included Ritz’s preferred fly, the Tup’s, along with the Light Cahill, the Royal Wulff, and the Lunn’s particular. Each individual fly takes between five and ten minutes to tie by hand.

For summer 2026, Bode announces a new collaboration with the Yale School of Music and the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival. The Chamber Music Festival has over a hundred years of history in Norfolk, Connecticut, supported by the summer students of the Yale School of Music. 

For this year’s Festival, organizers commissioned an original composition from Yale School of Music graduate student Nahre Sol based on the original research behind Bode’s Fall 2026 collection, Rodeo Bodeo. Research for the collection investigated regional music and key figures from Western and rodeo history—especially the “singing cowboy” Jules Verne Allen, a working cowboy-turned-musician who recorded much of the early Western songbook.

Sol’s composition will premiere at a concert on August 8th, celebrating America’s 250th birthday, after a conversation between Emily Adams Bode Aujla, Nahre Sol, and a member of the Yale history faculty. A selection of references and pieces from the Rodeo Bodeo collection will be on view in the Festival’s Music Shed throughout the weekend.

Bode and the Festival will continue to work together in the coming years, and we envision an expanded annual collaboration.
