The movement is this: the diaspora is global. Not Black. Not a nationality. Not a religion. The diaspora is the human experience of being displaced from your origin — by colonization, by migration, by time, by capitalism, by forgetting — and finding your way back to yourself.

Every human being on this planet is a member of some diaspora. The Irish diaspora. The Indian diaspora. The Asian diaspora. The African diaspora. The diaspora of self — the people who grew up in families or environments that made them feel like strangers in their own skin.

The fabrics you use carry this truth materially. Kente and tartan both exist because humans independently solved the same problem of putting meaning into woven cloth. Ankara traveled from Dutch factories to West African markets to Caribbean resistance movements. Ikat was invented on five continents simultaneously. The cowrie shell was currency in West Africa AND South Asia AND the Pacific. These are not coincidences. They are evidence that we have always been more connected than the lines on maps suggest.
