Most brands buy artwork from print design agencies. A designer creates a print, sells it for a flat fee, and the brand owns it. Some of those agencies do beautiful work and collaborate with incredible brands. But after looking through what felt like a hundred leopard prints, every one I found was either too vulgar or too boring.

So I made my own.

One thing I love about this print is that it behaves a bit like wine. Because we use recycled nylon, the fibre composition varies slightly from batch to batch, which means the colours do too. If you bought a Painted Leo piece years ago and add another one today, they’ll work beautifully together - but they won’t be exactly identical.

To me, that’s part of the charm. Every production has its own character, its own vintage. And just like a great bottle, it ages remarkably well.

Summer rain is a good omen

Last year, I gave the only sample of this top to my friend Lykke for her wedding trip to Mexico.

I told her to wear it only if she genuinely liked it - I wouldn’t be offended if she didn’t. Her sister-in-law owns the most beautiful resortwear shop . Needless to say, she’s not easy to impress.

Seeing it on her, the way she styles it, made me realize this top is a total 70s-vibe killer.

I think about my friends a lot when I design - especially those that dress better than I do (lol).

A year later, this one is finally available.

And I’m particularly happy it made the cut for - a must-visit whenever you’re in Miami or Cabo.

I find the color pink highly provocative. I don’t know why. Maybe because it’s a happy color?
