NY FOREVER❗️

The Big Fella admits his biggest and only regret during an illustrious 17 year professional basketball career was not retiring with his original team. Patrick Ewing has been in the hearts of New Yorkers since being drafted in 1985 and the love was always mutual. In 2002, he announced his retirement from the game as a member of the Orlando team.

In 2003, Ewing made his way home to see the 33 jersey retired at the Garden. The journey didn't stop there. Patrick Ewing won the 2026 Championship as a staff member for NY. The dream is now the legacy.

In March of 2011, Patrick Ewing Jr. signed a 10 day contract with the New Orleans team and would eventually earn a permanent roster spot a month later. Ewing Jr. officially checked into a professional regular season game for the first time on April 5, 2011 against Memphis. Only about 100 sons of Pro players have made it to the league.

Back in 1985, The Big Fella made his pro debut against Philadelphia after New York selected him No. 1 overall.

41 years later, the WORLD CHAMPIONS are tipping off their preseason against the same team Patrick Ewing faced on night one. Philadelphia was there at the start of the Ewing era, and tonight they’re on the other side as the champs get back to work.

Teased for his foreign accent and height, 12-year-old Patrick Ewing faced challenges leaving Jamaica 🇯🇲 for a new life in America. Eventually, the game of Basketball would change his life for the better. [Interview by The Pivot Podcast]

In 1985, being drafted to New York was a huge deal due to how the connection between Jamaica and NYC runs deep. Jamaican sound-system culture helped influence the birth of hip-hop through Kingston-born DJ Kool Herc in the Bronx. Today, that influence can be felt across NYC through reggae and dancehall, jerk chicken, patties and coco bread, and even a stretch of Church Avenue named Bob Marley Boulevard.

💰💰 Big Fella would’ve made a BIG BAG in the NIL era! By the time he left college, Pat was a three-time consensus All-American, two-time Big East Player of the Year and the 1985 National Player of the Year. He finished his college career with 2,184 points, 1,316 rebounds and 493 blocks before becoming the No. 1 pick in the 1985 NBA Draft.

When appearing on Podcast, Patrick Ewing joked about watching today’s college athletes get paid and asked “Where is my NIL money?”

From 1981-85, Patrick Ewing played at Georgetown — he helped turn the Hoyas into one of the biggest attractions in college basketball. Georgetown reached three NCAA championship games during his four seasons, winning the national title in 1984. Ewing was named the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player during 🏆.

Now put THAT résumé in today’s NIL era. Pat might have a point…
