This iconic Bob Mackie sketch of Marilyn Monroe’s “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” gown was created in 1962. Working as a 22-year-old sketch artist for the legendary Hollywood costume designer Jean Louis, Bob was tasked with visualizing Marilyn’s request for a “see-through, naked” dress that would be worn for John F. Kennedy’s 1962 birthday gala.
A part of the Icon Collection™️ the original sketch is now on display in the “Marilyn Monroe: Hollywood Icon” exhibition at the , May 31st, 2026 thru Feb 28th, 2027.
