“And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men. And when they could not get near him because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him, and when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, 'Son, your sins are forgiven.'” · Mark 2:3-5
Four men. One mat. A house so packed they could not get near the door.
Most people would have turned around. These four climbed onto the roof and started digging through it. Somebody else's roof, in front of a crowd. That is not a polite request. That is a crew that decided their friend was getting to Jesus one way or another.
Then read the line that matters. When Jesus saw their faith. Not his. Theirs. The man on the mat did not get there on his own strength. His crew carried him until he could walk.
Everybody needs a crew like that. And at some point, everybody needs to be on one.
So ask two questions this week. Who would carry me to the roof? And whose mat am I holding? If you cannot answer the second one, start with one name and one phone call.
Father, thank You for the people who carried me when I could not walk. Give me a crew, and make me worth having on one. Amen.
