“Amika present last Crowns In Bloom: Celebrating Hair in Contemporary Art, a contemporary art exhibition curated by Auttrianna Ward as part of New York Art Fair Week.”

It was my pleasure and joy to attend this beautiful exhibition last night.



Auttrianna Ward with a few remarks about her vision in bringing together an intergenerational group of artists across multiple mediums such as paintings, sculptures, photography & etc.

The first piece that captured my eye upon entry! Hair truly is an art form and I’ve always felt like the beauty supply store is for beauty arts and crafts.

Funny enough I was inspired by Ngozi Edeme work to challenge my own artistry so this was my first time playing in chrome blush’s and shadows on my eyes and face. There’s more of this to come!

The exhibition was rooted in Amikas belief that “All Hair is Welcome” and I felt that 🤍

I had the pleasure of meeting Vernon during the HFR x BBR Beauty Collective last year and reconnecting last night. ✨

This piece behind me was made by Vernon, using hair!

I’m still comprehending this piece but it caught my eye! This is hair yall!

I loveeee meeting amazing people and I met this beautiful soul last night! I was instantly captured by their blush and highlight placement, so TEA!

The intention, the patience, the vision, the EX*****ON! 👏🏾👏🏾

Just serving faceeee!! I love beauty and beautiful people inside + out!

NYFW DAY 7

I attended the Emerge! A Fashion Runway Show show in this beautiful dress by BIBIRÉ that I fell in love with at the AfrikreaHQ pop up ✨

I attended on behalf of 🥂

This was my second NYFW and though it was exhausting ripping and running for a whole week… I tried now things, learned even more and made new connections! I look forward to what’s to come!

I was on GO, working hard and playing harder so I stopped for gas!

Side Bar: the lighting at gas stations at night are soooooo tea! I’m a multi hyphenate creative because I create spontaneously. We literally stopped for gas on our way home from NY and I had my husband capture these… thanks hunny BIG STATE ✨

You don’t have to sacrifice yourself to be a good mom. You don’t have to give up on the version of yourself you desire to be. You don’t have to do everything and be everything to be a good mom. You can still show up for yourself and be present for your children at the same time.

NYFW DAY II

I started the day off shooting content for a client turned friend and then we attended the Society 18 Hispanic Heritage Month Mixer ✨

Rooms like these are imperative because they’re the perfect opportunity to meet creatives alike, connect with brands and put yourself out there. Regardless of how you feel you must walk in the room like God sent you there!

NYFW DAY 1 ✨

Tarte X NYFW MUA Restock literally couldn’t have come at a more perfect time.

This was my first time working NYFW as an artist! Prior to this I’ve only ever taken regular clients, assisted and taught. I showed up, and God literally showed out!

This opportunity was through my favorite community The Black Beauty Roster!

We were invited to Tarte Headquarters and got to mix and mingle with other artist in the industry. It was fun because I asked everyone if they’d worked NYFW and for those who did it was a love it or hate it kind of response. I took it in stride and after experiencing NYFW BTS for myself I loved it! It was giving wedding day with 50/11 bridesmaids 🤭

I had the pleasure of working with BTS STYLING OFFICIAL and felt a warm welcome from the start. Everyone an artist in their own right came ready to WORK and that’s what I loved the most. The camaraderie backstage was positive and made my first time a special one!

Oh, I had no idea I was working the Samantha Black : Sammy B show y’all! Literally my first show was legendaryyyyyy!! Y’all know I’m rooting for everyone black so to be apart of this show was special!

After 3+ hours of hair + makeup the show literally lasts like 20 minutes… it’s insane lol but I’d do it over and over again!

There’s so much to be grateful, Glory be to God always!
