Good Morning Florida!
On this day, July 8th in 1886, the Orlando Street Railway Company was approved by the Orlando City Council. Initially, the line had only one car. It was drawn on a narrow track by two mules at about six miles an hour. Eventually, a second car was added to the route that began at the Church Street railroad station and went north on Orange Avenue, eventually circling back.

On this date, July 7th in 1983, authorities conducted Operation Everglades, a massive, pre-dawn, multi-agency law enforcement raid that targeted the remote fishing community of Everglades City in Collier County, Florida. Directed by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the sting brought approximately 200 heavily armed federal and local officers into the small, tight-knit town. The busts were highly controversial, as authorities arrested upwards of 80% of the adult male population and seized over half of the local commercial fishing fleet.

On this day, July 6th, back in 2003, another famous Floridian was laid to rest. Buddy Ebsen, born and raised in Orlando. Born in 1908, he passed at the age of 95. Most remember him from his iconic role - Jed Clampett.
