Team member, Emily and her husband Charles took on the Holiday Lake 50k this past weekend. With fabulous temps they both ran superbly. Emily ran an impressive 5:35 and Charles ran a spectacular 5:22! Debbie came to Hope for Life Rescue from a partnering shelter after being surrendered due to financial hardship. Being ripped from the only home she had known, Debbie was not a happy camper. BUT over the last year HFL has had her, yes you read that right, Debbie has proved to be a gentle soul.
Debbie is 8 years old and a recent dental has her missing many of her front teeth. She does occasionally get her lip stuck on her canines though. Debs is also COMPLETELY house trained. She doesn’t get on furniture and is overall a calm, docile girl.
Debbie loves hanging out with her person. When your not home, she waits patiently for you to get back and shows excitement when you come home to her again. She loves the love and will paw at your arm or stand dead in front of you to make sure you know she is ready for pats and belly rubs.
Debbie gets along with dogs that match her calm energy and she is besties with all cats! She deserves her special person.

She came to rescue because her old owner decided to tie her to a tree and leave her.
Animal control found her with a note telling them her name.
She will do best with parents who love to go outside with her.

Kids can be teenagers over 15 who know how to behave.
She should go to a place her with a home that does not have a lot of traffic.
Dixie is being fostered in VA Beach and she is available through Coastal Sheltie Rescue.

Meet Louie! Louie is an almost 4 month old (DOB 10/5/23) double-merle Aussie mix puppy that will steal your heart! He is about 25 lbs (will be a larger sized dog full grown) and up to date on all vaccinations and preventatives.
Louie is not neutered yet and would require a neuter contract to adopt. He is deaf and has some visual impairments (starburst pupils- light sensitivity, reduced peripheral vision).
Louie, along with his brother Dewey, came from a Mississippi rescue that wanted them to go to a breed-specific rescue due to their disabilities. Since Louie came into ASF, he has been thriving in his foster home and living his best life! He has finished potty training, learned sit and lay down, and is doing well with recall. He gets along with everyone (cats, dogs, chickens, kids) and loves to meet new people.
Louie loves his people so much and wants to be close to his humans at all times. He loves to cuddle and thinks he is a lap dog (he will be a big boy). He is a medium energy pup that has a hard time holding still, unless he is cuddling or sleeping. He can get rowdy when playing with his brother. Louie is more vocal and will tell you if he needs or wants anything. He is crate trained, but does not necessarily care to be in the crate. He is very vocal when he wants out of the crate. He does sleep 7-8 hours through the night without a peep, but he will let you know the moment that he is awake. He prefers that his crate is covered to create a darker environment for sleeping.
Louie needs a home with a fenced in yard. He would prefer other confident furry friends to play with and to help guide him. Due to his disabilities, he will need a home that understands his needs and that preferably has experience with hearing and vision impaired dogs. He could benefit from a pair of goggles (i.e., Rex Specs) to reduce the light to his eyes.
This boy is so special and so so sweet. He is the best snuggler and loves to give hugs. He will make the perfect addition to your family! He will steal and melt your heart in an instant!

Mike and J&A’s Lori Cooper wrapped up footwear measurements for 723 kids from 16 elementary schools who are participating in the Starting Strides Program for the Shamrock Final Mile.
The Starting Strides program began in 2012 and has since expanded to 16 elementary schools in Coastal Virginia. The program provides scholarships to schools with economically disadvantaged communities to help eliminate the barriers that prevent students from running the Operation Smile Shamrock Final Mile. These barriers include financial costs and transportation. The scholarship includes the following for up to 50 students at each school:

Happy boy Duke was so ready to get out and play! Duke is one of those petite pitties, cute cute cute and with a personality to match! He is full of energy and the zoomies in the yard proved it! Duke seems to love people but other animals, not so much. He was found stray and traced back to a couple homes who said they no longer wanted him. Duke is not of puppy age but still of puppy energy. He needs a family who will keep him on his toes with daily training, daily lots of daily exercise and lots of daily play. He's just a fun little guy looking for lots of your attention.
HEIDI - 7 years old, 50 pounds, house trained, good with cats and older kids. SENIOR seeking a calm home - has enlarged liver - hospice lady ❤️
She is past the puppy behaviors of chewing and barking and demanding all of your attention. She seems like she'd enjoy a walk and then enjoy just hanging out with you.

Hope for life Rescue had 6 emergency intake puppies arrive who are now on sleepovers. They appear to be doing well considering they are thin and were found lethargic from being left out in the cold. They call it keeping running in the family. Mark Manny our Beach shop manager has a son Finn in 9th grade who has started running cross country for Kellam. In his first 5k this season he ran 18:13 and yesterday he ran 17:24. Finn is following in the footsteps of his parents. His dad boasts a 5k personal best of 15:30 and his mom, Steph has a PR of 18:10. Finn is very lucky to have great parents to support him. Finn’s mom says “as long as he is having fun and making friends, we are happy.”

We have another box of shoes ready to ship to the MORE Foundation Group! 👟 This group is a US non-profit organization, currently in our twenty-third year. They collect gently used athletic shoes for re-use and for funding reforestation. They purchase seeds, establish nurseries, and teach/promote agroforestry. Essentially, MORE implements self-sustaining tree farming. Along with seeds and sapling distribution, schools and villages receive the necessary tools to increase productivity. The integrated MORE Farming System includes mentoring in small farm business management, rain forest resource conservation, capacity analysis, community development, and Co-op setup. Don’t forget you can drop off your used running shoes at both of our locations.

We could not be more proud of team members Shannon and Mark for taking on the 60th Annual JFK 50 Mile Run in Boonesboro, MD. Mark boasted a finishing time of 8:54 (his fastest 50 miler) and Shannon 12:06. They always continue to amaze us. Mark is our Beach shop manager and Shannon is our apparel buyer for both of our shops.We are excited to hear their stories! Great job Shannon and Mark!
