⭐️ A Piece of Chicago History Has Arrived at Happenstance Vintage: a circa 1840 American Empire mahogany sofa with beautiful figured wood and traditional button-tufted horsehair upholstery. ⭐️

What makes this one especially remarkable is its provenance: the sofa was deaccessioned from the period furnishings of Chicago’s historic Clarke-Ford House Museum, recognized as Chicago’s oldest surviving residence.

A true statement piece with nearly two centuries of history behind it — and one that was selected to help interpret domestic life in pre-Civil War Chicago.

Best Facebook Marketplace find EVER. 🧡

A pair of 1982 burnt orange velvet Century sofas made in Hickory, North Carolina — and somehow they look like they’ve barely been sat on in 44 years.

The color. The velvet. The tufting. The condition. I am completely obsessed.

And before anyone asks: no, these are not going to the shop. These beauties are staying right here with me.

Tim has already been dispatched to buy baby gates to keep the dogs off them. 😂 Priorities.

Some Marketplace finds are good. Some are great. And then occasionally, the vintage gods absolutely deliver. 🧡

Estate sale art haul = my favorite kind of weekend souvenir. 🎨

I found these beauties this past weekend and, for now, they’ve made their way to The Gilded Host at Happenstance Vintage. From moody old-world landscapes to a dreamy harbor scene and a little floral fabulousness, ❤️

The only problem? I’m already mentally rearranging walls at home. 😏 So if one speaks to you, you may want to grab it before I decide it speaks to me.

Apparently I’m in my farmhouse butler pantry era. 🤎

Give me warm old oak, cut crystal lined up on the sideboard, stacks of mismatched china, vintage rolling pins, charming old milk glass spice jars and an antique Delft Blue coffee grinder that absolutely does not require electricity.

I love the idea of a pantry filled with things that are both beautiful and useful — pieces that have already made a thousand meals and somehow still make a kitchen feel special.
