Exquisite Pathan jewellery known as Laungeen, a timeless heirloom deeply rooted in the wedding traditions of the Pathan families of Barah Basti. When you come across a bride from or married into the families of Barah Basti, you cannot miss the striking clove and silver garland gracefully adorning her. More than jewellery, Laungeen is a symbol of heritage, identity, protection and grace, traditionally gifted by the groom’s family and worn by the bride during her Nikah and Walima to ward off the evil eye.

The origins of this extraordinary adornment trace back to the Pathans who migrated from Afghanistan and settled across the belt now known as Barah Basti (twelve settlements) established by Isa Khan during the reign of Sher Shah Suri (1472–1545).

Inspired by the traditional Kochi tribal garlands of Afghanistan, these pieces historically featured cloves, silver, glass beads and colourful cabochons, reflecting the vibrant artistry of Afghan Pashtun tribes. The word Kochi itself comes from the Persian word Koch, meaning migration.

At Aabnoos Couture, every Laungeen is meticulously handcrafted using premium quality dried cloves (laung) and delicate pieces of chandi ki tukdi. The cloves are carefully cleaned, sorted, and soaked in saffron infused rose water to enhance their richness and lingering fragrance. Skilled artisans then hand thread each clove with precision using strong wirework, arranging them densely with intricate detailing to create a luxurious masterpiece steeped in culture and craftsmanship.
