Finished the singles last night, and then promptly spent about 15 minutes looking for my plying rock. πŸ˜‚ About 1.5 inches long, half smooth/half broken. Its shape forces me to wrap gently or risk cutting the yarn. Eventually, it shifts from an odd shaped nugget into a manageable round ball to ply from.

Delivered last weekend, 380-ish yards of 4-ply light fi*****ng 100% alpaca yarn. There's enough fiber to make another two skeins and then I believe it will be the white alpaca fiber's turn for processing.

Plied, washed, dried, and done! Some of my thicker yarns, coming in at a fi*****ng weight yarn, spun during the Spin-In 2026 weekend.

But you've spun that in the brown alpaca? Yes, but that was 4-ply, this is a 2-ply! 289 yards, I'm super happy with how it turned out. ☺️

Currently on the wheel is this lovely batt from . I found it hidden in the deep stash, not sure from how long ago. I was looking for something that I could work on during and something that I could work on letting go with to result in a more thick yarn.

I'm enjoying the spin immensely, the inclusions leave me hoping that they'll survive the ply and washing stages. I'm not sure what this will grow up to be beyond a 4oz, 2-ply, spun from a stripped batt in a mid-back draw with twist between the hands.

I'll be sure to share a photo when it's done.☺️

Rolags are done! There's about 110 in the baskets, waiting to be spun up. Once these are done, I'll ply up the next skein which should give me the needed freed up bobbin for the weekend. 😊

Next weekend is Spin-In 2026 in Oak Harbor, Washington at the high school. I plan on attending the whole weekend ($25 at the door, $15 goodie bag), which means I need to clear up a bobbin for my wheel.

Fortunately for me, I managed to work through the last of the alpaca in this stage of this project! You can see a very small portion of how dirty it is.πŸ˜… Today and tomorrow I will be focusing on making rolags for filling up the fourth bobbin before I ply. If all goes well, there'll be a bobbin empty to work with. If it goes better, there'll be two! 🀞

Presenting Sock Cake, a WIP with several years experience in languishing quietly in the project bag closet. πŸ˜… The blue-ish part is more green tinted like the second photo, but sunset and the phone's camera program automatically adjusting colors makes for some interesting results.

This cake was the result of visiting a fantastic friend with a bunch of sock yarn to try out their brand new circular knitting machine. I had intended to knit a bunch of heels/cuffs/toes onto the socks with random scrap yarns so they could be random pairs with the main body matching. Other projects took over and then the sock cake was forgotten. It's going to be my knitting go-to for a while. πŸ˜†

Finished a pair of short socks from leftover yarn. I didn't follow any particular pattern for them, just casting on my usual amount of stitches and working along with certain goals in mind. I wanted 1x1 ribbing that would carry all along the top of the socks. Eye of Partridge heel flap, like the ones from Hermoine's Everyday Sock pattern, because I love how easy the pickup for the gussets are.

I usually taper the pinky toe edges long before the big toe, but after repeated usage, the taper tends to lose the definition and shifts more towards the center. This time, the 1x1 ribbing continues partially up the big toe, while the other toes lose their ribbing as the taper progresses. That ribbing should make it easier to feel which is the left or right sock even after wearing them over the next year or two.

For those who want to make their own similar socks, this is what I did for this pair:

Size 2 dpns (2.75mm)
64 simple loop cast on
1x1 ribbing until you're ready to make the heel flap
Eye of Partridge heel flap (4 row repeat) repeated 8 times
Work heel turn and gusset
Maintain 1x1 ribbing for top of foot, stockinette for the bottom until 1/4 way up the pinky toe
Begin reducing stitches on pinky toe edge every other round until end of pinky toe is reached or equal to base of big toe nail
Reduce stitches on both sides of toe box until 20 stitches remain
Kitchener to close
Weave in ends

I offer this teeny, tiny bunny as evidence that I have not fallen into a well. πŸ˜† I've been distracted and not been paying attention to the date, which is how it has been months before I made a post about anything.

Allow me to tell you about this wee little bun. The pattern is "Teeny, Tiny Bunny" by Claire Garland aka . I found the pattern on Etsy and Ravelry at a very reasonable price (less than $3.) The bunny is knitted flat with sewing to close it up. I highly recommend stitch markers and a crochet hook appropriate for the yarn you decide to use. Be sure you are comfortable with picking up stitches, short rows, and mattress stitching.

I used some leftover Malabrigo yarn from an earlier project, a small amount of fiber fill, and a tiny amount of plastic beans for a weighted blanket (about 1 teaspoon.) It was a fiddly knit the first time through, especially with the yarn I was using. I took a lot of notes and am now working my way through a second rabbit in worsted weight yarn.

So far, most of my frustration points were due to the very small size and unfamiliarity with the pattern. My recommendation is to give it a go with a larger yarn than fi*****ng the first time through.

I demo'd spinning during my birthday and the day after, spinning when I wasn't talking to people about their questions about my wheel, fiber, and spinning in general. There were some moments that stood out, both positive and negative, but overall a very happy experience.

This is a 30/70 merino/silk blend, spun very fine (z-single) and chain plied (s-plied). I had one bobbin freed up for this event and I wanted to spin for as long as possible on the one bobbin. πŸ˜† There's still a bath in store for this tiny skein, then yardage and wpi can be determined.
