A must read 😀 Stay safe 💙🌊
We’ve said it a million times, and now we’re saying it with our art: Waves have no chill. Remember this as the king tides arrive tomorrow.
OK, maybe we’ve said it 997,642 times. But still!
The first round of this season’s king tides hits the Oregon and Washington coasts this weekend, Nov. 15-17. These are exceptionally high tides that occur each fall/winter when the moon and sun align to put the greatest gravitational pull on the earth.
To add to the fun, starting Monday, waves measuring 22 to 28 feet are forecasted to crash along the coast.
Consider this an ideal time to stay off jetties. These massive stone structures were built to calm inlets so that vessels can safely navigate inland from the ocean. Not… *picks up megaphone* NOT FOR RECREATIONAL USE OR GETTING A BETTER LOOK AT THE KING TIDES.
All the dangers of being out on a jetty (and there are a lot of them) are amplified when conditions are rough or when the sea is high.
Here are a few other quick king tide safety tips:
-- Stay up high if you plan to view the king tides.
-- Never turn your back on the ocean.
-- Stay off logs and other debris.
-- Stay in shallow water (if in the water at all).
