When I look into your future what I see is...🔮
Just kidding.
That's not how this works. 😉
When folks think of a crystal ball most picture- the turban, the draped table, the tall dark stranger... but that is a stage act, built by vaudeville magicians + early Hollywood about a hundred years ago.
The actual practice is far older.
Scrying- gazing into polished stone, dark water, a mirror- runs deep through many lineages including Celtic tradition.
The Druids are said to have gazed into beryl. The Scottish Highlands kept a living tradition of "second sight" into the 1800s.
And Samhain, the Celtic turning of the year, was always the night for divination, when the boundary between worlds was thinnest. Centuries later, John Dee, astrologer to Queen Elizabeth I, kept an obsidian stone for the same purpose.
Then, in 1843 a surgeon named James Braid noticed that holding a soft, steady gaze on a bright object dropped people into a trance. He named it hypnotism.
Gazers had known it for centuries. When the eyes rest on a featureless surface, the brain quiets its chatter + begins to generate its own imagery...the same mechanism as seeing faces in clouds. What surfaces isn't coming from the glass..🔮It's coming from you.🔮 The sphere isn't magic, it's your own tuning in.
Which brings me to speak on spheres in general + why I love them...
Most stones radiate energy from a single point or a face.
A sphere has no edges. It emits energy evenly, 360 degrees, in every direction at once. Enveloping a space with it's properties.
Right now the shop has many different spheres, Ocean Jasper, Peach Moonstone, Selenite + Obsidian (and in the last slide, while not a sphere... you'll see Rainbow Osidian, such a treat!)
For the season, I wang to highlight Obsidian + Selenite, as it represents Light + shadow.
Yin + yang.
And Obsidian, which is a volcanic glass- the same stone Dee gazed into, is truly the one to bring home as we move toward Samhain + Día de los Mu***os where the veil thins tween worlds.
Grounding, protective, honest, it is the quintessential self-reflection stone. Scorpio season soon bebe. A good companion for looking at what's underneath as the veil grows thin..🖤
