Why do damage needle cause such problems.
The thread passes both ways though the eye with every stitch, not just down.
The thread follows the needle down through the fabric in a stationary position as the take up lever follows the needle giving slack in the thread.
As the just starts up the hook grabs the thread pulling the remainder of slack out down through the eye of the as the needle continues up.
At about half way up, the hook has pulled the thread halfway around the bobbin case. The take up lever now starts back up twice as fast as the needle pulling the thread back up through the eye of the needle.
It is at this point the needle can do the most damage to the thread. As it moves up through the eye a damage needle will grab, rip, tear, and possibly break the thread.
With each stroke the thread incurs more damage until the machine is looping under the fabric, the thread starts shedding or breaks altogether.
The needle also incurs more damage, as a dull needle causes deflection which will eventually cause the needle to bend or break.
Use the correct size needle for the type and thickness of fabric you are sewing.
