Swipe through for process and details of some of the treasures that will be there. ✨

- Antique Indigo Boro Ikat Stitched Kimono Jacket
Sashiko and Boro stitching are two Japanese heritage embroidery techniques, used to repair and bring new life to treasured garments and textiles. We used these techniques in the creation of this jacket, which we fashioned from rare fragments of c. 19th century indigo-dyed textiles, Ikat (warp dyed fabric with distinctively blurred motifs), and hand dyed organic indigo antique lace. We believe that garments become all the more valuable as they are preserved and repaired, from generation to generation. 💙

- Botanical Denim hand painted with flowers on antique handwoven linen denim, embellished with fragments of antique beading, and completed with hand sculpted sterling silver MP rivets, and sterling custom cast button. 🥀

- Handwoven Denim Embroidered Motorcycle Jacket, in our signature motorcycle silhouette, is naturally dyed with earth pigment to achieve its natural black color. It is hand-appliquéd with fragments of rare c. 18th-early 19th century heirloom silver bullion embroidery and is embellished with our hand sculpted sterling silver zipper pulls. 🖤

- Patchwork Guitar Strap, a selection of our one-of-a-kind guitar straps, hand embroidered with rare 19th c. patchwork crazy quilt fragments, against a custom crafted New York local vegetable tanned leather base. 🎸

As we close out Climate Week, we reflect in a moment of unity of the many hands involved in the international movement to drive a more sustainable fashion industry. 🌾

At MIMI PROBER, we are proud to be a member of the United Nations Fashion and Lifestyle Network; a global platform fostering collaboration, innovation, and transparency for a more sustainable future. 🌏

As part of our commitment through the goals, we engage within our philosophy of the four sustainability pillars in all that we create: preservation, farm to fiber, ethical production, and community engagement. 🫶

Swipe for some philosophy highlights through the years:

This gown was featured in “Fashion Unraveled” curated by , an exhibition that celebrated deconstructing, mending, and repurposing. Creating new from the old. 🪡 We turn to these processes of regeneration in creating contemporary heirlooms; garments made from artifacts of the past that are imperfect, but become treasured and more valuable from the effort in caring for them, and their story to tell. We are honored to have this piece remain a source of inspiration for students and the public, as a part of the museum’s permanent collection. 🤍

🌻This film photo captures a signature botanical color process; foraged dye materials from our surrounding ecosystem; strengthening our understanding of the landscape we love, using steam and compostable plant matter, into one of a kind painterly designs.

🌹 Crafted from antique lace and painted from the earth with madder, weld, pomegranate, and chestnut. We grow our palette of botanical dyes with each season, drawing color from natural materials like flower petals and diverted food waste. A month of inspiration and gratitude, as comes to a close, we celebrate with for their debut of ‘A Fiber Journey: Textiles Farmed and Made in New York State’ for , and reflect on the inspiring journey with the fiber community in New York & especially with gratitude to , a true treasure and supporter of local wool, textiles, processes and authentic connection from farm to fiber to fashion through her own cherished heritage breed sheep and beautiful animals .

Isabella inspired all of us through her discussion at this very special event hosted at , where the takeaway was embracing and uplifting local community and processes - as Isabella beautifully said “knowing where your sweater came from is the ultimate luxury”. We couldn’t agree more. ♥️

We had the honor to create in collaboration with a very special piece using Isabella’s treasured wool from her Santa Cruz & Lincoln Longwool, both rare and endangered heritage sheep that she lovingly cares for on her farm, the most special local luxury fiber. 🐑 The wool was processed into roving by & then prepared for felting together with friends into our signature felted lace textile. We then used the felted remnants to design a patchwork of palettes with the Santa Cruz wool and locally foraged plants, embroidered into a patchwork throw. Words can’t express the joy this was to create with such meaningful process and present these very special pieces as our gratitude to Isabella for all that she does in preserving and furthering these important processes and conversations.

We also shared in this experience and the felting process with Lila + Zada, Senior Design students , inspiring each other + the next generation. ✨

Meaningful connections and reshaping the fashion ecosystem to honor all of the hands, and support every step of the process is always the foundation of our work. We cherish these moments, and can’t wait to continue to share more of what we are cultivating together in !

From last April to this April, we wanted to share some ‘Earth Month’ musings and acknowledge the local work in New York State that is beginning to take shape on the ground and behind the scenes with , as they focus on the support and growth of our local New York State fiber ecosystem - from farm, to fiber, mill, processing, to final product. Initiated by Governor Hochul, spearheaded by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets, Commissioner Richard Ball, and led by Kathryn Davis, the Natural Fiber Textile Development Workgroup is a collaboration of individuals from all areas of expertise who are passionate about this movement in sustainability, supporting the local supply chain and bringing the natural fiber & textile industry at the forefront in New York State and beyond.

Mimi is honored to be a member of this workgroup. Everyone in the community can and should join in this conversation (our next meeting is in October, and you can join us!). As we work towards implementing the workgroup’s recommendations, community conversation and collaboration are the first steps towards the way forward in rethinking our industries. Always ask questions and share the important story of , in support of the people and planet. 🌱

Moments to cherish and always remember. Taking it back to show #99 with our forever muse . Grateful to honor the deeply meaningful artistic vision. ✨
The making of this process was so special from concept to creation - what began with a conversation and vision board that we dreamed up with our kindred creative spirits and , created from a place reminiscent of the 60’s icon & muse, in honor of the great Ronnie Spector. 🌹 Each handcrafted element stayed true to the story, every detail embraced the vintage and artisanal processes, an evolution of our philosophy - as we enter into a 1960’s era. ♥️ Integrating authentic 1960’s textiles, including a very special ‘London Red’ dreamy silk (direct from London!) that was lovingly reimagined into the draped caped sleeves, pleated entirely by hand, alongside the multi-layers of truly special deadstock vintage red and burgundy silks and an antique velvet ribbon that transformed into the sweetest handcrafted bow. 🎀
Brought to life & closely crafted alongside our team . Focusing on meaningful processes with special friends and collaborators - always honoring the hands that created the art. ♥️

Thank you for the honor and to create this special capsule collection & custom dress for this very special moment - a dream always with you!

With the visionary creative team ✨

‘Food & Fashion’ Museum at FIT, an incredible multi-layer exhibition that delves deep into the fun that fashion has not only with elements of food, but the understanding of nature and potential of food waste on the development of bringing forward sustainable impact in design and process. Curated by .marra.alvarez and , thank you for including our work in the ‘Growing Alternatives’ section of the exhibition and highlighting our vision of slow fashion, natural color, and handcrafted textiles. 🌹 “Elements of Slow Food and Slow Fashion converge in these ‘Edwardian meets-bohemian’ looks by alumna Mimi Prober. Slow Food promotes quality locally-grown products and Slow Fashion similarly values locally sourced materials and slow production methods that prioritize quality over quantity. Prober’s Spring 2021 collection was a meditation on “garden and plate” and used textiles with materials sourced from small, family-owned, local, and sustainable farms that were naturally dyed using pomegranate and avocado”. -

Avocado pits and pomegranate skin derives a painterly palette of colors from ingredients that would have otherwise been discarded as food waste. Botanicals have been used to color textiles for millennia, before the advent of synthetic dyes. Creating garments with local materials and mindful practices, honors the work of each individual involved in our journey from farm to fashion at .

Today is the final day to view ‘Food & Fashion’ at the Museum at FIT, but as the topic grows, the exhibition also continues to live on through the inspiring book authored by Melissa Marra-Alvarez and Elizabeth Way on , in which we are also honored for our work and process to be included through our “Garden To Plate” collection with dear friends ♥️

On the way to SUNY New Paltz for the Hudson Valley Textile Project Summit! Mimi Prober will be presenting a keynote on “Utilizing Locally Sourced and Sustainable Materials in the Fashion Industry”, discussing in detail our design process, ethos, and collaborations - we can’t wait to converse within the community on all things fiber, slow fashion, and mindful design! 🌾 The Hudson Valley Textile project is a network of farmers, mills, and artisans - founded on the same principles that underlies our own philosophy of work: implementing an environmentally conscious and mindful approach to textile creation. Extending our gratitude to Cornwall Yarn Shop, Battenkill Fibers, and all organizers and participants of the Hudson Valley Textile Project for the opportunity to converse together on this important topic! 🐑

“Fashioning America: Grit to Glamour” The first fashion exhibition at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art curated and envisioned by Michelle Finamore () who created an intricately detailed and typically untold story of America - with objects spanning over two centuries - a truly educational and beautiful feat; the labor of love is evident as this important story is shared. ♥️
Guiding you through this vision is the sculptural design, which transforms into its own brilliant interactive art, brought to life in design by the truly inspiring creative force Ruben Toledo () ✨✨✨

“Conveys uniquely American expressions of innovation, highlights the compelling stories of both designers and wearers, and amplifies the voices of those who are often left out of dominant fashion narratives.” -

“The Grit section includes an homage to American craft traditions such as Mimi Prober’s beautiful crazy quilt collection, Libertine’s schoolgirl embroidery-inspired fashion, James Galanos’ quilted caftan, and Giorgio Sant’Angelo’s patchwork dress...” - , thank you for including us in this beautiful visual narration. 🌹

♥️ Closing today at , if you missed this exhibit in Arkansas, it will be traveling to the New Orleans Museum of Art beginning this summer! 💫
